[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t might be helmed by international celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, but think of Db Bistro & Oyster Bar as your friendly, bustling neighbourhood bistro in Paris, sans snooty waiters. It’s where you would go to for a comfortable dinner of dependable classics.

The steak frites – there’s a choice of US or Australian cuts – comes in generous portions, with the option to add on a grilled lobster tail for a surf and turf spin. Also wonderfully decadent are the burgers: the original db, for instance, is packed with braised rib and stuffed with foie, sandwiched between two moreish parmesan buns.

A sleek glass-and-marble raw bar – the latest addition to the restaurant – adds much excitement, especially for oyster lovers. Around five types of the season’s best oysters are on offer each night, at times a petite kumamoto from America’s west coast, or perhaps the prized Gillardeau from France.

The extended seafood menu is no less enticing, with offerings such as jumbo shrimp drizzled with a tangy sauce and served cocktail-style; and Maine lobsters in a martini glass, tossed with pomegranate and hazelnuts for a sweet crunch.
