This Christmas, make the gift of time count with these luxury timepieces as more brands are beefing up their offerings for the ladies with unique styles and complications.
Now that Panerai and its fans have become accustomed to the idea of a dressy, feminine Luminor, thanks to the introduction of the 38mm Luminor Due models, it was just a matter of time before a moon phase — arguably the most popular complication in ladies’ timepieces — entered the collection.
The four variants, comprising three references in stainless steel and one in Goldtech (the brand’s rosy, unfading red gold alloy), feature a moon phase display at 3 o’clock mirrored by a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock.
The ones in steel use the familiar sandwich dial construction in blue or white with lumed indices to match the colour of the moon, while the more luxurious Goldtech model shimmers with a mother-of-pearl dial and applied numerals and hour markers.
Of the four, only the Goldtech version allows you to see the self-winding calibre P.900/MP through its sapphire crystal caseback.
A new edition of Montblanc’s Bohème, in 30mm and 34mm, brings out the day/night indicator in an unusual but romantic interpretation.
Mother-of-pearl clouds outlined in rose gold-coloured threads enliven the dial’s centre, above which a rhodium-plated moon travels across a starry sky. Curiously, the sun is set on the hour hand, so the two celestial bodies meet at midnight. The automatic MB 24.20 movement beats inside three models in stainless steel and rose gold.
The colourful Top Gun Pilot’s Watches from IWC have been on our radar for some time now. However, there is always room for simple elegance, which the recent additions to the Portofino Automatic 34 ladies’ collection provide.
Apart from the fresh colour combinations, you’ll notice that the models with gem-set bezels now have larger 1.7-mm diamonds, the calfskin straps come with butterfly folding clasps, and that there is a new five-link steel bracelet to choose from. The collection also introduces its first day-and-night complication cased in 18K gold or stainless steel.
When considering an everyday accessory, every millimetre counts. For this reason, Longines has released its versatile Master Collection with dials featuring barleycorn textures, mother-of-pearl faces and sunray finishes with Arabic numerals or diamond indices in not so dainty 34-mm versions.
A new steel model with champagne sunray dial and taupe leather strap is also included in the collection that’s jazzed up with the season’s trendiest colours. With 72-hour power reserves, their automatic calibres also enhance wearability.
