Omega MoonSwatch

In a remarkable fusion of horology and philanthropy, Omega has successfully auctioned off 11 exclusive MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold suitcases through Sotheby’s in February, raising a total of CHF534,670 for charity. Within each suitcase are the first-ever 11-piece set offering of the Omega x Swatch Mission to Moonshine Gold watches. Prior to the auction’s closure, these coveted suitcases were exhibited in Omega boutiques across the globe, from Zurich to Sydney.

In an unprecedented move, 100 per cent of the auction proceeds are being donated to Orbis International, Omega’s long-term partner committed to combating avoidable blindness and vision loss worldwide.

Orbis International, renowned for its Flying Eye Hospital and its extensive programmes in eyecare, has been a beacon of hope for millions. Through its efforts, countless patients have received vital eyecare, and a vast network of eyecare professionals has been trained in the most underserved regions of the globe. Orbis’s initiatives are particularly impactful for children, many of whom can now see the world around them for the first time. Omega’s support for Orbis since 2011 has been unwavering, and the success of this auction is a testament to the watchmaker’s commitment to making eye care accessible to all.

Raynald Aeschlimann, president and CEO of Omega, expresses his enthusiasm about the auction’s outcome and the global support it garnered. “This unique auction really captured the imagination of MoonSwatch fans around the world. We’re so thrilled that the proceeds can now go to Orbis. We believe wholeheartedly in their eye care mission, and we’re so pleased to have raised money as well as awareness for their work,” he says.

The original Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch collection was released in March 2022 to critical acclaim and high demand. Produced in revolutionary Bioceramic, the 11 models drew their colourful inspiration from space and the planets, while also paying tribute to the legendary Omega Speedmaster design.

The Mission to Moonshine Gold watches are an innovative interpretation of the classic Bioceramic MoonSwatch timepieces, distinguished by their seconds hands coated in 18K Moonshine Gold, an exclusive alloy that ensures a subtler and more enduring lustre than traditional yellow gold. Each timepiece boasts a unique design element on its seconds hand celebrating various lunar phenomena, with motifs that include a strawberry for the Strawberry Moon in July, a flower for the Flower Moon, and a lollipop design that follows the Speedmaster CK2998 watch from 1961.

The suitcases themselves are also one-of-a-kind, as they contain a golden monocle with the Omega x Swatch logo, and a unique coin engraved with the three-letter aviation code from their displayed city (such as SIN for Singapore). This same code will be engraved on the side of all watches within the suitcase for that particular city.
