For scientists, the International Geophysical Year was a way to celebrate the resumption of Eastern and Western scientific interchange, following the death of Joseph Stalin in the late 50s. For watchmakers like Jaeger-LeCoultre, it was an opportunity to release a special edition. This year, the brand has revived the Geophysic 1958 watch in a faithful remake with three new materials: steel, pink gold and platinum. The crosshair pattern can be found on the steel and pink-gold versions, while the platinum model features a cleaner dial with baton indexes. Like the original, the movement is anti-magnetic, but has been updated to be self-winding and comes in a slightly bigger case size of 38.5mm to suit modern tastes.
