More than 140 golfers tee-ed off at the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) New Course on Sept 21, having purchased golf packages to support food charity Food from the Heart (FFTH) in its mission to alleviate hunger. Among those who joined in the friendly competition were Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC Seah Kian Peng.
“The Charity Golf Tournament is pivotal to help us raise more funds to support our growing number of beneficiaries,” said Robin C. Lee, CEO of FFTH, who urged corporates and individuals to support FFTH’s mission in providing reliable, consistent and sustainable food support to the less fortunate.
The tournament was the first major, in-person fundraiser organised by the non-profit since the pandemic. Watchmaker Audemars Piguet returned as a Presenting Sponsor while Fairprice Foundation was the event’s Eagle Sponsor. Both partners have supported FFTH activities for the last decade.
Despite the challenges of last year, FFTH distributed $7.22 million worth of food to over 59,500 beneficiaries. But compared to the same time last year, cash and in-kind food donations received by the organisation have dipped in the current climate of post-Covid recovery, inflation, geopolitical conflicts, and supply-chain disruptions, the organisation disclosed.
Post-game, golfers and guests convened at the SICC Grand Ballroom for dinner, a live jazz performance, prize presentation and lucky draw. They also received specially curated goodie bags filled with items from proudly homegrown brands Cloversoft, Nanyang Sauce, Oatbedient, Our Second Nature, Supermama, The Powder Shampoo and Tiger Balm.
