A new generation of more sustainable and eco-friendly workstations is emerging. This trend is illustrated perfectly by a new bike desk presented at the recently-concluded CES 2023 consumer tech show in Las Vegas, allowing you to exercise and recharge your computer, all while working.

It is Taiwanese manufacturer Acer that is presenting this hybrid workstation of a whole new kind. Called the eKinekt BD 3, it has been designed to keep people active even while working at a computer. Two pedaling modes are available. The “working” mode proposes an upright sitting position with the desktop close, while in “sports” mode, the desktop is positioned a little more forwards, leaving more free space to lean into a racing position and pedal harder. An accompanying mobile application helps users track the progress of their performance over time, with information on exercise time and calories burned.

Note that the energy produced while pedaling is used to charge laptops or other devices connected to the desk via its three integrated USB ports (2 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C). As you pedal, the bike converts kinetic energy into an electrical charge. Pedaling for an hour at 60 rpm can generate up to 75 watts of power, which is sufficient to charge a computer and/or other devices.

Finally, this bike desk also boasts sustainable credentials since it is made, in part, of recycled plastic, used both for the desktop and the frame.

After an exclusive release in Taiwan in April, the eKinekt BD 3 will be available worldwide from June, priced at US$999 (S$1,328).
