For the fourth time, EarthFest will be returning to Marina Barrage on Jan 20, 2019. With sustainability at its core, this eco festival aims to inspire a greener lifestyle through movements such as minimalism and plant-based living. Pop-ups will be aplenty at the bustling festival, including a range of plant-based food stalls. Below, the stalls you shouldn’t miss while you’re there:
Crunchy falafels from Taste of Kult
Inspired by street food as well as Brazilian and Sri Lanka cuisine, Taste of Kult brings to the table a plant-based line up for this year’s EarthFest.
Expect to tuck into finger-licking vegetarian bites such as house nachos with smokey chilli, mini vegan cheeseboards, crunchy falafels in brown rice pita, and tabbouleh (a Levantine vegetarian salad).
Kult Kafe, 11 Upper Wilkie Rd, Singapore 228120. T: 9389 2185
Beyond Sausage ‘hot dogs’ from Grand Hyatt
Here’s a new addition to the meat alternative revolution: Beyond Sausage. This plant-based creation is entirely free of gluten and soy. Made from ingredients such as peas, fava beans, rice, beet and coconut oil, the sausage contains more protein than regular sausages, as well as less fat (both total and saturated). Keep an eye out for the beyond Sausage hot dog truck, which will be serving up an authentic yet healthy version of the classic hot dog, grilled and wrapped in a house-made vegan bun and topped with dill pickled Japanese cucumbers, shallots, tarragon mustard and ketchup.
Prior to EarthFest, the truck will be stationed in front of Grand Hyatt Singapore from Jan 17 to 19.
Grand Hyatt, 10 Scotts Rd, Singapore 228211. T: 6738 1234
Chilli ‘crab’ mantou sliders from Hello Baby
Singapore’s iconic chilli crab has been reinterpreted – vegan style. These chilli crab mantou sliders are made of enoki mushrooms, smothered with chilli crab sauce, and sandwiched between a golden fried mantou.
Hello Baby will also be dishing out such plant-based burgers as fried cauliflower burgers (topped with purple cabbage stew) and the ‘Ang Moh’ burger, featuring vegetarian ‘Beyond meat’ patties.
Hello Baby, 10 Trengganu St, Singapore 058476. T: 8738 5770
Plant-based ice cream from Smoocht
Beat the heat at the festival with these plant-based cold treats from Smoocht. Made out of 100 per cent natural ingredients such as organic brown rice milk and evaporated cane sugar, this ice cream is 75 per cent lower in calories as compared to regular ice cream. Smoocht’s creations are definitely for the health-conscious. One can expect to find a delightful selection of classic flavours such as dark chocolate, pure hazelnut, and mint chocolate chip, as well as tangy alternatives like strawberry, lemon, mango and passionfruit. Other unique flavours such as earl grey, black sesame and matcha will also be available.
