La Prairie opens its first standalone boutique in Singapore at Ion Orchard

Pop by for one of the luxe skincare brand's popular facials, or check out its latest retinol-bearing Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil.

Starting from $520 for a 90-minute session, La Prairie facial treatments, like its skincare products, are pricey — but they have a major following. And once you’ve tried one, it’s easy to see why. Recently, The Peak had the opportunity to experience the White Caviar Illuminating & Firming Facial ($560), which is exclusive to the Swiss luxury skincare brand’s new flagship boutique at Ion Orchard.

While La Prairie has long offered treatments at its facial cabins located at Takashimaya and Tangs, the new standalone store provides a comprehensive, one-stop shop for all things La Prairie. The 61-sqm space features a coolly modern aesthetic inspired by contemporary Swiss architecture and a palette of silvers, blues and greys, and, and incorporates two treatment rooms.

An exclusive brightening facial

I headed to the boutique on a busy weekday and was in a bit of a tardy tizzy. But even though I had rushed in late for my appointment, I was soon put into a pleasantly somnolent state (right in the heart of town, at that) by the White Caviar treatment expertly executed by my therapist.

As its name suggests, the facial features the use of products from La Prairie’s brightening White Caviar line. (I’m a fan of the White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion, with its fun, luminescent caviar-esque beads that leave skin looking more luminous.) According to the brand, this treatment “promotes an even skin tone by helping to prevent discoloration and illuminating the skin”. This was the first facial I have had since the pandemic began, and it’s also one of the best I have experienced. My skin was left feeling silky smooth and brighter until the next day, but what I liked most was just how relaxing the treatment was.

While some facials see you being left alone with a mask on for a while or involve a face massage that feels cursory at best, here, the therapist never stops working assiduously on your face, shoulders or arms the entire time. My therapist’s strokes were firm and even on both sides — which sounds a given, but isn’t always the case. Aside from this brightening treatment, La Prairie also offers a Skin Caviar Lifting & Firming Facial ($520), a Platinum Rare Haute Rejuvenation Facial ($890) and a Pure Gold Radiance Facial ($600).

A new retinol oil

To give the home skincare regimens of its fans a further boost, La Prairie has also recently launched a new product, Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil ($820, 20ml). What makes this oil intriguing is that it contains natural retinol that is derived from caviar. Retinol, of course, is one of the superstar ingredients in skincare, and is known for its anti-ageing qualities.

This fine oil, which has the distinctive floral fragrance that distinguishes Skin Caviar products, is meant for use at night, as a step before that final application of night cream. Comprising caviar lipids and caviar-derived retinol, as well as the brand’s skin-rejuvenating Exclusive Cellular Complex, the Nighttime Oil promises to improve hydration and firmness, reduce the appearance of fine lines and strengthen the skin barrier in the long term.
