New food and drink events to check out: Beerfest Asia 2017 and The Singapore Coffee Festival

Exciting beer, coffee and tea festivals happening in July and August 2017.



At this caffeine-filled event, more than 50 exhibitors will show off their brews under one roof – including Jewel Coffee, Common Man Coffee Roasters, Symmetry, Hook Coffee, Brawn & Brains, and Park Bench Deli. There will also be hard-to-find artisanal offerings from social enterprises at the Asia for Good corner presented by DBS, plus barista competitions, coffee workshops and demonstrations, performances by local music acts, and Posh Nosh by Hsueh – an exclusive dining experience featuring the most delectable picks from the festival, presented by none other than Straits Times Life editor and veteran food critic Tan Hsueh Yun.

Beerfest Asia 2017

The ninth edition of Beerfest Asia promises to be bigger and better than ever, with over 100 new beer labels making their debut at the festival, like Krušovice Imperial, Erdinger Sommerweis, Pressure Drop Wu Gang Chops The Tree and Guinness Bright; a music line-up spanning more than 30 live quality acts across different genres; and the introduction of Singapore’s largest outdoor Beer Yoga session. This year’s festival also marks the debut of hands-on beer workshops, hosted by different brew masters and brand ambassadors. And homegrown breweries Archipelago Brewery, The 1925 Brewing Co. and Brewlander & Co will showcase their innovative creations, brewed specifically for Beerfest Asia 2017.

Contemporary Spanish restaurant, Esquina, will be hosting its annual summer fiesta and this time, in collaboration with Hendrick’s Gin. Chef Carlos Montobbio and his team will prepare Spanish BBQ favourites, from Esquina’s classic grilled octopus and traditional txistorra sausage (raw chorizo) to juicy grilled rib-eye with chimichurri sauce, while Hendrick’s brand ambassador for Southeast Asia, Tasha Lu, will serve a range of gin tipples, including a Spanish Hendrick’s & Tonics, which includes Fino Sherry. There will also be Estrella Galicia beer on tap. Guests who show up wearing all white will receive their first gin and tonic on the house. Tip: Bring a picnic mat if you wish to sit on the grass hill beside Esquina.

Pin Tea

Tea lovers: don’t miss this inaugural festival dedicated to your favourite brew. Highlights include: A Tea Market, where you’ll come across a National Day collection by The 1872 Clipper Tea Co., floral teas inspired by iconic Singapore neighbourhoods from Pin Tea, and new organic cold brews and tea blends infused with Chinese herbs from Infusion-de-vie; a Teapitiam selling delicious tea-inspired foods; and tea-themed workshops like “Floral Arrangement in a Teapot” by The Botanist and Her Thieves and “Tea Towel Printing Workshop” by Messy Msxi.
