Pizza is the ultimate delivery food. Now that we’re all stuck inside, it’s time to indulge a little with some of the best pizza places in Singapore.
Amo
The pizza here is made with sourdough, which gives the crust an extra layer of complexity. While they’ve got uncomplicated, classic toppings like their Margherita DOP, it’s the signatures that get us really jonesing. Highlights include a sweet-salty combination of gooey stracciatella, prosciutto, rocket, and fig vincotto, a balsamic-like reduction made with figs. Most of the pizzas are also available with dairy-free options. They’ve also got pastas and grilled mains available for takeaway — we like the grilled octopus with friggitelli peppers; and the butter-roasted spring chicken.
Cicheti
While not strictly a pizza place, Cicheti takes theirs seriously. Pies are slung from a blistering wood-fired oven, which gives the neapolitan-style pizzas the requisite leopard spots and a chewy, tender crumb. The pizza dough from Cicheti falls on the denser, more seasoned side, which lends itself well to the simple toppings like those found on a Margherita. For extra oomph, the Romana is a Margherita with anchovies — it’s not like there are date nights anymore. Cicheti also offers pastas and small plates like creamy burratina cut with pistachio, onion marmalade and pesto. There’s also a “crack pie” — which seems like a lighter spin on Momofuku Milk Bar’s notorious dessert, made with a butter-rich almond frangipane on a cookie crust.

Da Paolo Dempsey
The Da Paolo Group’s latest digs at Dempsey has a pizza programme that puts it in the big leagues with its 72-hour fermented dough, proprietary wood-fired oven, and gourmet toppings. Highlights include an 8-cheese pizza (double the usual 4) dressed with smoked date cream and truffled honey. Besides pizza, they’ve also got an extensive range of delivery items, from Italian-style mains to cheese boards and even coffee.
Acqua E Farina
Authentic, Neapolitan-style pizza made from scratch with Italian flour. While they’ve got all the classics like Diavalo and four-cheese, the restaurant isn’t afraid to bend the rules a little — enter a pizza topped with smoked salmon and mozzarella (mixing cheese and seafood is a taboo in traditional Italian cooking); and “Pizza Hawaiiana” with cooked ham and pineapple. We’re not complaining though — so long as the dough and sauce is good. They’ve also got something called “Scicilian Boats”, which bear close resemblance to Turkish pide, and come with toppings like buffalo mozzarella and Parma ham.

Pizza Art
Tucked away in a remote corner of Robertson Quay, Pizza Art is as assuming as they come. Out of their tiny kitchen space comes properly saucy, blistered pizza that give the big boys a good run for their money. A small selection of antipasti and pasta is also available. How do we know they’re confident about their food? They can’t even be bothered to post their menu upright. Takeaways only, between 5pm-11pm.

Blue Label Pizza
A concept from the guys behind the popular Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chophouse, Blue Label pizza proves that you don’t need to name your dishes in Italian to make good pizza. The flavours here can be non-traditional, with options like the “Wish I Was a Baller”, an indulgent mix of sliced steak, mustard bechamel, roasted onions, mushrooms, and provolone; and their unabashed take on a Hawaiian-tyle pizza – with pineapple of course. Other things to look out for on the menu include the State Fair fries, which features hand-cut potatoes with black pepper gravy, fried egg, aioli, and shaved truffles.

Zazz Pizza
For a place that offers over a dozen flavours and the option to “build your own” pizza a la fast food chains, Zazz has some pretty serious pizza. The sauces and even chilli flakes are homemade, while the neopolitan-style crust is everything it should be: crusty and light with a pleasant chew. Get the Bismark – mozzarella, ham, bacon, egg, and truffle cream sauce – or the Zazz Pizza, which comes crowned with hefty chunks of Australian ribeye.

Publico Ristorante
Another mainstay at Robertson Quay is Publico Ristorante, that brings all of the expected convivial al-fresco dining from a riverside establishment as well as proper Italian gastronomia. Woodfired pizza highlights include a deliciously creamy burrata pie and the feted tartufata pizza with black truffle, porcini and smoked scamorza – only proper from a place that styles itself as a gourmet playground.
