Some kind of park bench
Is it a sculptural work or a furniture piece? Nacho Carbonell’s ‘Under A Light Tree’ perfectly melds the two to create a contemporary collectible.
Light show
Studio Drift’s signature light sculptures comprise hundreds of small LED lights cascading from the walls and onto the floor. The lights look even more magical against Ca’ d’Oro museum’s formidable art collection.
Furniture with a message
Virgil Abloh’s “sinking” works prompt the viewer to think about the fate of Venice against rising sea levels.
Clear intention
Dutch-born Verhoeven Twins spent seven years conceiving and perfecting these glass sculptures called ‘Bubble Works’. They’re hung against a beautiful view of the Grand Canal.
Time after time
Maarten Baas’ massive clock titled ‘Real Time XL The Artist’ is a favourite among visitors. It appears to house a living workman who actively erases and redraws the clock’s hand every minute on the minute, to indicate the changing time.
Lamp on a leg
Atelier Van Lieshout standing lamps feature human or biomorphic forms holding up the lamps and lamp shades.
Sitting on water
Mathieu Lehanneur created furniture pieces whose surfaces mimic the undulating waves of the sea. Fittingly, they’re carved out of green marble and granite which echo the hues of the surrounding Venetian waters.
