Design Intervention
They’re one of the leading design studios in Asia Pacific, and have received multiple awards including best residential design project for the Asia Pacific Region at the International Property Awards. A bespoke piece of furniture from Design Intervention involves working with their designers to customise every aspect: the shape, size, colour, material, and proportions to fit perfectly into their designated rooms. Pieces are designed and made in Singapore so they have full control over the process, making for unique furniture that combine comfort with keen aesthetics. The company also designs interiors, so they can even be in charge of the whole shebang.

WTP The Furniture Company
While they’ve got an extensive ready-made catalogue, WTP also has an in-house carpentry team that builds customised furniture ranging from beds to sofas and nightstands. Designs can range from classic to contemporary, and aren’t just limited to luxurious woods like mahogany and walnut — their team can also work in metal, and at any size. All custom pieces are made in Singapore, and usually take three to four weeks to arrive.

Urban Salvation
Founder Ahmad Habshee works with regionally-sourced and salvaged wood, to craft crafts designs ranging from grungy industrial-chic to minimalist Scandinavian furniture. This local boutique furniture workshop around since 2015, and many of their designs include reclaimed items: like a vintage sewing machine repurposed as a side table, or using reclaimed pipes in a shelf.

While wood has its own rustic charm, those looking for something more colourful or eclectic will find that at Blafink, a local venture specialising in customised upholstery for beds, sofas and beyond. They’ve got a fabric inventory numbering in the mid-thousands, with options that run from simple, solid colours to eye-popping psychedelic designer prints. For those sweating the details, they’ve even got a growing range of furniture legs that can potentially change a unit from homely to haute.

Roger&Sons
Clients for local woodworking mavericks Roger&Sons include P.S. Cafe and craft agency The General Co. They work with primarily wood, although other materials like metal and marble come in to complement designs that can range from workdesks and kitchen islands, to even headphone casings. While they also work with conventional lumber like teak, nyatoh, and pallet wood, Roger&Sons champion an eco-conscious mindset. The “ethical makers” have started the The Local Tree Project, an initiative to raise awareness about, and make use of the trees in Singapore that have been cut down to make way for urban development.
