[dropcap size=big]W[/dropcap]hile we generally advise against buying luxury watches for investment purposes unless you happen to really like Rolex and Patek Philippe, there may come a time when you’re ready to purchase a timepiece someone else once loved. There are many apps that help facilitate this, including Crown & Caliber, Govberg Jewelers and Watches 247, but you may want to pay attention to the newest entrant, Luxglove.

The app, developed by Talenia Phua Gajardo, who is also the CEO of online art gallery and consultancy The Artling, is essentially a Carousell for luxury goods, and, in addition to watches, users may browse or sell furniture, art, collectibles and jewellery. “As online shoppers become more discerning, curation in the secondary market luxury segment is key and this is what makes Luxglove unique,” she says. This also cuts out the hassle of consigning your treasures to a major auction house, and is the ideal platform for pieces that aren’t in the six-figure-field, which said houses may not accept.

Every listing is meticulously screened by a team of dedicated experts, and it is always made clear if an item has imperfections or is lacking supporting papers – particularly for timepieces. Items with poor pictures may be rejected so, if you’re not a shutterbug, the app offers a White Glove service where they’ll take care of it.

LOOKS MATTER The app developers offer professional photography to enhance an item’s appeal.

“People often have beautiful, well-kept pieces at home that they have grown tired of, or they may want to clear space to make way for newer, different items,” she says. “Our platform allows likeminded collectors to discover great bargains.” A Patek Philippe Ellipse Ref. 3848G, for example, costs $7,980 and an A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 in yellow gold, $38,899.
