[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he Embassy of Japan, in collaboration with Japan Creative Centre and Shermay Lee of Singapore Fine Food, hosted an event at Sheraton Towers Singapore on July 13 to celebrate both the Peranakan and Japanese cuisine and culture. H.E. Mr Kenji Shinoda, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, as well as ambassadors of ASEAN countries and Singapore’s Minister for Finance Mr Heng Swee Keat were in attendance. Executive chef at H.E. Shinoda’s residence, chef Yamazaki, co-presented the menu with food consultant Lee, opening with a cooking demonstration which showcased a union of Peranakan and Japanese cuisine. Guests were also seen dressed in the traditional Peranakan kebaya for the evening.
