Franck Muller Vanguard Revolution 3 skeleton

Whether you think tourbillons in wristwatches are actually useful or not, there is one thing we can all agree on: They’re great fun to look at, with their rotating carriages providing an additional layer of dynamism to the constantly oscillating balance spring. What’s even more spectacular? A tourbillon that simultaneously rotates on three different axes – which is exactly what Franck Muller achieved when the brand created the world’s first triple-axis tourbillon, Revolution 3, in 2004.

Originally presented in Frank Muller’s signature Cintree Curvex case, the Revolution 3 tri-axial tourbillon is now combined with the sporty Vanguard case: The Vanguard Revolution 3 Skeleton comes in a black PVD-treated titanium case measuring 55.9 x 46 x 13.7mm. It’s a large case that’s necessary to house the tourbillon, which is further highlighted with sapphire-crystal domes on the back and front.

Each of the three tourbillon carriages moves at a different rate: one hour, eight minutes and 60 seconds. Proving further that this watch is all about its regulating organ, there are two retrograde displays at 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock, respectively indicating the progression of the eight-minute and 60-seconds carriages. At 12 o’clock, a power-reserve indicator tracks the watch’s impressive 10-day energy store. Red aluminium is used for the indicators as well as the tourbillon cage, creating sporty accents that stand out against the skeletonised movement and the black elements of the rest of this statement timepiece.
