Consider us surprised. This was a collaboration that we weren’t expecting at all. Luxury supercar marque Lamborghini and iconic streetwear brand Supreme teamed up to create a capsule collection of apparel and accessories for the latter’s spring/summer 2020 offerings.
While the usually disparate worlds of luxury and streetwear have continued to mesh together in unexpected ways, supercars and skateboarding are not natural bedfellows, and is perhaps the oddest collaboration to come out in recent years. According to Katia Bassi, Chief Marketing and Communication Officer for Lamborghini, the supercar brand “recognised a spirit and dynamism in Supreme that resonated with its own brand”.
It may seem like marketing doublespeak, but Bassi isn’t far from the truth. After all, Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the supercar manufacturer in 1963, in part because he was dissatisfied with Ferrari’s cars, having bought multiple himself, and the after-sales service that the Prancing Horse provided. When his concerns were dismissed by Enzo Ferrari himself, Ferruccio decided that he could do better.
In many ways, this attitude is reflected in Supreme as well in their attempt to upend the status quo of the fashion and luxury world.
And what about the collection itself? You’ll find a hooded work jacket, a shirt, a hockey jersey, a coverall, skateboards and beanies. All of them are rendered in the iconic colours of Lamborghini – orange and green.
