Airport retail is big business – leading Swiss travel retailer Dufry, for one, has predicted that the duty-free industry will grow to US$67 billion (S$89 billion) by 2020 from an estimated US$45.7 billion in 2016. Providing the latest evidence of this trend is the opening of Louis Vuitton Changi Airport Singapore, the brand’s duplex store at the departure transit hall of Changi Airport Terminal 3. Carrying a selection of products across all product lines, this is the brand’s first airport store in Southeast Asia, and it certainly holds its own against  its spectacular street-facing boutiques anywhere else.

Located within Changi Airport’s new glass sculpture-filled Crystal Garden, the Louis Vuitton Changi Airport store beckons shoppers with a digital entrance featuring a 6.5m tall LED screen. The store facade is double-layered, with a glass exterior and an inner sparkling mesh inspired by Louis Vuitton’s Monogram flower. Hanging from the ceiling is a life-size replica of a 1930s French plane – a nod to the brand’s 164-year-old travel heritage, as well as its latest home.
