Louis Vuitton face shield

If anyone is wondering what “pandemic chic” looks like, Louis Vuitton (LV) has certainly attempted to provide an answer.  It seems that personal protective equipment (PPE) is here to stay – rightfully so – and the fashion house is running with it.  Although some other high profile brands have already come up with designs for face masks, LV is leading the way in design for face shields.

Monogrammed with the signature LV pattern, the protective gear is designed with a padded strap that wraps around the wearer’s head.  The face shield – enhanced with transition lens technology – is fastened on to the strap with gold studs that are engraved with the LV logo, and is also bordered by a trim with the same monogrammed pattern on the strap.  The shield portion pivots at the studs, and is designed to look like a retro visor when flipped upwards – that is, if one feels the form of personal protection to be inadequate (or for some, too much).

Retailing at $970 USD (SGD $1318), one can expect to have the most stylish protective gear in any given room.  “Room” being the effective word, as in Singapore, face shields are not permitted in public spaces – unless one is a child or has a respiratory disability.

This statement piece will be released on 30th October 2020 for Louis Vuitton’s 2021 Cruise collection, curated by the house’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière. Those looking to buy the face shield in Singapore will have to wait a little while longer though, as the item only drops 6th November for Singapore’s LV outlets.
