Over the last few years, the watch industry has seen several shifts, one of them being a growing number of brands — including MB&F and Audemars Piguet — moving to take control of their own secondary market. Then 2020 came along, bringing along with it a need to batten the hatches and lie low, and that conversation died down for a bit.

With the opening of its latest store, however, Richard Mille Asia has revived the topic. Called (rather literally) The Value of Time, the new boutique at Ngee Ann City (Tower A, #10-06) is the world’s first store to exclusively retail pre-owned Richard Mille watches.

Here, clients and would-be clients can buy, sell and consign second-hand Richard Mille timepieces. The greatest advantage of the store — and indeed, of high-end watch brands selling their own pre-owned models — is probably its guarantee of authenticity. Other pre-owned timepiece dealers offer this too, but many would probably find it at least a tad more convincing coming from a brand itself.

According to the brand, each piece is put through “the most rigorous evaluation and a thorough authentication process”, and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a 24-month international warranty from Richard Mille. Perhaps one will have better luck obtaining one of those elusive RM 11’s here.
