Will we be able to travel any time soon? Or will we not? It’s anybody’s guess, but when premium luggage is your key product, you can’t just sit still while contemplating the possibility of borders reopening. That’s why Rimowa, in January, announced a new collection, Never Still. Launching then with a backpack (in three sizes), a weekend bag and a tote, the range focuses on “mobility esssentials” — that is, highly functional bags designed for everyday life or travel (handy travel straps allow the user to secure each bag to a suitcase).

Now, Rimowa adds to the collection with more designs that reference its iconic suitcases. Grooved canvas panels, most obviously, reflect the grooved surfaces of the brand’s polycarbonate or aluminium suitcases. Other familiar touches include the Rimowa monogram and logo, as well as detachable leather tags that can be customised with your initials. All bags are made from full-grain leather and water-repellent canvas.

The latest collection comprises four key styles: A messenger bag, a briefcase, a flat pouch and a small backpack. Our favourites are the messenger bag and the briefcase. Available in four colours (black, grey, Saffron Yellow and Desert Rose), the Never Still Messenger is a cross-body bag featuring adjustable straps marked with the coordinates of Rimowa HQ in Cologne.

Made in black or Cactus Green, the briefcase features two large zipped compartments, an interior padded pocket for storing a laptop of up to 13 inches, an adjustable and removable strap, and a travel strap.

One day, you’ll be wheeling your grooved suitcases across airports again. In the meantime, the Never Still pieces should come in pretty handy for navigating daily life.

The Messenger (S$1,090), Briefcase (S$1,780), Flat Pouch (S$690) and Backpack Small in black ($1,190) are available at Rimowa stores worldwide.
