Did you know that Ruth Handler, co-founder of toy company Mattel and inventor of the Barbie doll back in 1959, was a breast cancer survivor? This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, do your part in celebrating her legacy and supporting women impacted by the disease — with a visit to a really meaningful pop-up at Design Orchard.
On Saturday, October 12, from 12 noon to 7pm, Simone Jewels and Jian Yang, who has Asia’s largest Barbie acquisition, will be jointly showcasing their collections.

From the fine jeweller’s Empower Her collection are 12 gorgeous and utterly contemporary designs, ranging from rings and pendant necklaces to earrings. Four precious pieces, made with 18k rose gold, pink sapphires, and sugarloaf-cut mother-of-pearl, cost upwards of $1,280. There are also eight designs made with gold vermeil and pink sapphires, with prices starting at $220.
Beyond shopping, you can also expect to swoon over some of the Barbies owned by Jian Yang (@jianyang1979 on Instagram), who doesn’t just own over 12,000 dolls, but is also a photographer, published author, and toilet-paper artist who crafts “couture” outfits for his toys. A modern icon for strength and resilience, Barbie could not be a better spokesperson for this noble cause.

This philanthropic campaign is launched to raise not just awareness of the most common yet highly treatable cancer among women, but also funds to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation of Singapore, which supports early detection, as well as care for patients and caregivers. For every jewellery sale purchase, a portion of the proceeds goes to the organisation.
