Processed by a region of the brain directly connected to areas linked to emotions and memory, smells — more than anything — can trigger recollections of moments and feelings from one’s past. In other words, scents are powerful stuff. Coupled with the fact that many of us have been spending more time at home since the pandemic, it explains the slew of new room candles by luxury brands, whose success is largely intertwined with their ability to capture the emotions of customers.
After launching Celine’s Haute Parfumerie fragrance collection in 2019, creative director Hedi Slimane has followed up with a six-scent range, which was recently launched here. Produced in a process created by the brand’s in- house wax maker and presented in black faceted glass containers, each candle is inspired by moments and memories Slimane holds dear.
One of the scents, L’Inventaire, features woody notes of oak, cedar and rockrose, a combination that channels the spirit and smells of the designer’s Parisian home. As the press notes dramatically detail, these include elements such as “the Versailles parquet lit by parchment lampshades and golden wood chandeliers” and “the streamlined wood on the Eyre de Lanux chairs”. Users can choose to make the experience even fancier with accessories such as a candle snuffer and wick trimmer.
