With work-from-home the default yet again, the line between breakfast and lunch blurs evermore. Here’s our pick of the best places to get your breakfast deliveries from – takeaways or self-pick ups are available for most of the items we’ve listed. If in doubt, just drop them a call.
Tiong Bahru Bakery Foothills
The homegrown French viennoiserie giant Tiong Bahru Bakery just unveiled its seventh outlet in the verdant Fort Canning Hill a little over a month ago. You won’t be able to enjoy the outdoor patio whilst appreciating the bakers’ handicraft from their open kitchen for now, though they’ll still be churning out high-quality breakfast grub. There’s their ever-popular crossaints and kouign amanns, as well as a few sourdough-themed exclusives, including a sourdough crossaint stuffed with a decadent cremeux praline filling, and kvass, a sparkly soughdough yeast-brewed concoction that hails from Eastern Europe. If you need something a little more homely, there’s always nutmeg teh halia – ginger tea, infused with a spice that’s a mainstay in Singapore’s plantations (when we had plantations). These exclusives are only available at their Foothills branch though, so they’d require takeaway.

Tolido’s Espresso Nook
Tolido’s Espresso Nook is a quaint, relatively non-descript brunch spot – at least from the outside – that serves up cafe nosh par excellence. They cover a variety of cuisines: there’s shakshouka, where eggs are poached in a tangy. Middle Eastern tomato-based stew before being devoured en-masse with toasted sourdough soldiers; classic Swiss rosti with lashings of sour cream, a fried egg and other proteins of your choosing; and Singaporean favourite laksa-turned-pasta, made agreeable for the cafe crowd with a rich, coconut milk-laden broth, prawns and microgreens. There’s also an excellent selection of cold brew coffees or their in-house drinks (their beans are from Yahava Koffeeworks).

Burnt Ends Bakery
It wouldn’t do to discuss breakfast without at least mentioning Burnt Ends Bakery, the online delivery arm of chef-owner Dave Pynt’s growing barbeque empire. That said, don’t expect oats and muesli here – yes, there’s plain white loaf or sourdough (that’s also served in the main restaurant), but why would you get that when there’s brioche doughnuts – vanilla cream, lemon meringue, and local-themed pandan or Milo Dinosaur – as well as their signature whole berry tart, cinnamon rolls and cookies. Savoury options include a gruyere and scallion scone, or a jar of their famous beef marmalade. Or maybe just get their beef marmalade burger for breakfast – no judgement there.

Neptune
The team behind Atlas Coffeehouse (and other celestial-named ilk) have recently unveiled a new cafe concept. Said cafe is called Neptune, and it’s since earned its fair share of social media attention – and unbearably long queues – for its twist on quotidian cafe fare. They’ve got a locavore twist on the breakfast staple that is chorizo and eggs (now scrambled), with a side of harissa chili crab; a trio of grano padano scones alongside honey mascarpone or yuzu jam; and a stalwart in the group’s menus, a sweet-savoury mix of streaky bacon, maple syup and vanilla ice cream on a buttermilk waffle. The coffee, of course, is just as accomplished as any of its sister restaurants. And if you’re wondering, they aren’t a Japanese-inspired cafe – they’re more than willing to remind you again on their website if necessary.
