It’s that time of the year again – durian season is upon us, and while we may be stuck at home, it doesn’t mean that we can’t get our fair share of the king of fruit – especially since everyone, including durian wholesalers, have hopped onto the delivery and takeaway train.

That being said, this isn’t something you’d typically want to take away: that heady, pungent aroma that causes the thorny fruit to be so revered by aficionados also happens to stick to car seats and trunks. This isn’t normally a problem, as you’d simply have to trawl the streets of Geylang looking for a spot as you steer past shop fronts stacked high with durian during peak season, before eventually finding a spot, pulling up one of those old school red plastic chairs and tucking in. Dining in nowadays, however, isn’t an option, which is where delivery comes in.

However, if you’re a stickler for picking your own fruit (and why not, especially when you’re paying a premium in dollars and calories), some of these establishments are allowing for self-collection, which would give you a chance to inspect the goods.

All said, enjoying durian in the comfort of your own home does have some benefits – not the least, running water and napkins. Just remember not to pair it with too much alcohol, as durians do inhibit the production of a key enzyme that our livers need to process the stuff. These are our pick of durian deliveries and takeaways for durian season 2020, so order away and tuck in with impunity.
