There was no Maserati-themed buggy. But, there was a V6 twin turbo chariot waiting for me at the entrance of the hotel lobby. Maserati had invited me to discover its latest partnership with Capella Singapore – a Maserati-themed staycation.

The carmaker pulled out all the stops. It tastefully transformed one of the villas in Capella Singapore into a Maserati mecca, embracing la dolce vita (Italian for the good life) with fast cars and slow living. There were prints of Maseratis on the wall, hanging beside vintage posters of the brand’s racing achievements. Towels and bathrobes bore the Maserati logo and the bedside table was stacked with books on the history of Maserati for your bedtime reading pleasure. There was even a Maserati RC (radio-controlled) car for the kids to play with; I spent way too much time making my own track in the villa and trying to set a lap record with the aforementioned RC car.

The Maserati staycation package also includes breakfast at The Knolls and a cocktail masterclass.

The highlight of the staycation though was the Maserati Levante. As part of the package, guests can enjoy a six-hour drive with the SUV. It’s a magnificent and deceptively quick all-wheel drive automotive animal. The twin-turbo V6 engines pump out 350bhp that helps the SUV to complete the century sprint in a respectable six seconds. It also boasts a top speed of 251kph, more than enough for city driving.

Maserati also provides guests with the option of driving the Ghibli grand tourer or the Quattroporte sports saloon if the spacious Levante isn’t their cup of tea. I do recommend that you opt for the new SUV during the staycation and book test drives for the Ghibli and the Quattroporte at the showroom. That way, you can experience the entire spectrum of the Maserati experience.

I spent a large portion of that time cruising around the city in the Levante and visiting museums. On one occasion, I parked at the National Museum of Singapore to go for high tea at Flutes. An hour later, when I returned to my lot, I saw two men circling the car.

Fearing the worst, I bounded over and asked them if something had happened to it. They turned to me and said, “No, nothing happened. We’re just admiring the car.”

There was a brief pause. “Is this car yours?” they asked.

I grinned like a child on Christmas morning opening his presents and nodded. I didn’t tell them that it was only mine for two more hours, but they didn’t need to know that.

The Maserati-themed staycation is only available at Capella Singapore in the month of November. For more information or to book a stay, please visit the Maserati Capella staycation page. You can also visit the Maserati showroom at 30 Leng Kee Road Singapore 159100 to test drive the Levante, Ghibli or Quattroporte.
