What: For an unusual savoury cake, try pastry chain Antoinette’s Hivernette ($75) – a fancy sandwich “cake”. It has four layers of house-baked country bread drizzled with olive oil and spread with mustard butter and tomato jam. Good for a Christmas picnic too.

Salt-encrusted Turkey


What: Nobody wants dry turkey for Christmas, so go for One Farrer Hotel & Spa’s salt-encrusted turkey ($160 for 6kg), where the salt seals in the juices and keeps the meat moist. Percik Turkey


What: Hotel Jen offers two styles of turkey – Western and Asian. The Asian “percik-style” roasted turkey ($198) comes with Sri Lankan crab claws in chilli crab sauce, Asian festive stuffing (with minced pork, onion, ginger, garlic and dried apricot), roasted root vegetables and Brussels sprouts, and golden crabmeat fried rice. Porchetta Sandwich


What: Park Bench Deli, known for its gourmet sandwiches, has rolled out two new options for the season. The porchetta sandwich ($18) is not to be missed. The pork belly is rubbed with a fennel-based marinade and slow-roasted. The sandwich is filled with the meat and crackling, along with caramelised onions, arugula and house-made roasted garlic sriracha mayonnaise. The other option is Hot Butter Ball ($18), a take on the classic Thanksgiving staple with slow-cooked turkey, house-made brown butter and truffle gravy, and cranberry fruit preserve.
