Oral Link becomes the first consumer dental AI screening platform to be approved by Singapore authorities

Singapore-based dental AI startup Oral Link has received regulatory approval from local authorities for the roll-out of its artificial intelligence-powered platform that allows consumers to screen their teeth using a smartphone without visiting a dentist.

The company announced on Monday (Sep 7) that it has received Class B medical device registration from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), making it the first dental screening solution designed for consumers to be approved by Singapore authorities.

This approval sets Oral Link apart from existing AI dental tools registered with the HSA, which are designed for use in dental clinics.

Oral Link’s system relies on five standard photographs taken by users with a smartphone camera. After analysing the images, Oral Link’s proprietary AI engine produces a detailed dental health report via its mobile app, categorising findings by location, severity and type of concern, along with an overall risk classification of one’s state of dental health. The platform can detect issues such as dental cavities, gum inflammation, plaque and cracked or missing teeth.

Having met Singapore’s regulatory standards for safety, quality and clinical performance, Oral Link describes its product as a screening and awareness tool for consumers towards professional follow-up care, rather than as a substitute for dental treatment.

A consumer-facing screening tool means more people — especially those who are unsure if they need to see a dentist, they can get an early, accessible read on their oral health, and a clear pathway to professional care when they need it.”

The company has deployed the dental screening platform in the community, including screening events at Siglap Community Centre and Kreta Ayer Community Centre. It is also working with corporate wellness partners, dental clinics and government-linked health initiatives to expand access across Singapore.

Oral Link is developing an AI companion chatbot with Nanyang Polytechnic to help users interpret dental screening reports and navigate next steps. The chatbot is expected to be rolled out shortly alongside the screening app.

The company, which is founded by a team spanning the clinical dentistry, technology, and healthcare operations fields, plans to expand its community and corporate screening programmes, deepen partnerships with dental clinics and healthcare institutions, and explore regional expansion in Southeast Asia.
