Singapore EXPO is set to introduce carbon tracking for all Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) events within its premises. This initiative is due to a new partnership between Constellar, the venue’s managing operator, and ESGpedia, an environmental, social and governance (ESG) technology company. It marks a major step in Singapore’s wider sustainability drive and aligns with the Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) campaign to position the country as the World’s Best MICE City.
Constellar will leverage ESGpedia’s digital solutions on sustainability reporting and carbon tracking to quantify greenhouse gas emissions associated with events held at Singapore EXPO. This includes trade show and exhibition operations, food and beverage supply chains and waste disposal, but also extends to the carbon impact of international attendees flying in and emissions accumulated over the duration of the stay. The reporting process is fully digitalised and aligned with international standards, enabling organisers to better plan their decarbonisation strategies and improve operational efficiency.
“As managing operators of Asia’s most sustainable MICE venue powered by renewable energy, Singapore EXPO, Constellar is proud to lead the industry’s sustainability transformation — and we’re not stopping here,” said Chua Wee Phong, Group Chief Executive Officer at Constellar. “Our collaboration with ESGpedia enables organisers to calculate carbon footprints and engage suppliers digitally, fostering a united approach toward shared sustainability goals.”
Suppliers in Constellar’s network, many of which are small and medium enterprises, will also be supported in this transition. They can leverage ESGpedia’s tools to take guided steps towards carbon accounting and reporting, contributing to Constellar’s green supply chain and sustainable procurement strategy. This combined focus on event emissions and supplier enablement is intended to accelerate value chain decarbonisation across the sector.
The initiative builds on Singapore EXPO’s position as Asia’s most sustainable MICE venue, powered by onsite renewable energy. Earlier this year, the venue became a pioneer awardee of the Platinum Certification under the MICE Sustainability Certification framework developed by the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS).
Furthermore, Singapore EXPO is also adhering to the Singapore MICE Sustainability Roadmap, jointly launched by the Singapore Tourism Board and SACEOS. This roadmap lays out a path for all purpose-built MICE venues and the majority of industry members, asking them to obtain internationally recognised sustainability certifications by 2025 and for the industry to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 in line with the national target.
“With Constellar being a definitive leader in the MICE industry and region, we are positive that through accelerating Constellar’s sustainability initiatives, we are able to jointly move the needle in strengthening Singapore’s position as a leading sustainable urban destination in the region,” said Benjamin Soh, Founder and Managing Director at ESGpedia.
