1. Polo Ralph Lauren: Festive classics

For this Chinese New Year, Polo Ralph Lauren updates its classics such as polo shirts (of course), cable-knit cardigans, jumpers and hoodies. An easy-to-wear piece with a touch of tradition is the Lunar New Year Classic Fit Overshirt, a garment-dyed shirt that comes with frog closures, just for the festive season.

The ladies’ collection includes cardigans and polo tees in lucky red, or in white with auspicious motifs such as one featuring the Polo Bear brandishing a fistful of red packets. A chic and dressier option is the Lunar New Year Hybrid Pleated Dress (pictured below), which comprises a wool-blend bodice and a sunburst-pleat charmeuse skirt. As for the kids, keep them cosy while visiting relatives in over-air-conditioned homes with chunky-knit sweaters or mini-cable cotton cardigans.

2. Boss: Calligraphic inspiration

In a festive collaboration with Boss, influential author and calligrapher Feng Tang puts his modern and minimalist spin on the Chinese character for dragon, 龙 (long). This becomes the central motif for the collection, which also includes a design featuring twin dragons making their way through jade discs and the BOSS logo. Featuring a palette of red, black and white, the range comprises smart-casual pieces such as baseball jackets, sweatshirts, knits, T-shirts and sneakers.

Bottega Veneta’s Lunar New Year campaign stars Taiwanese actress Shu Qi, who was named an ambassador of the brand last October. Directed by Jess Jing Zou and produced under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy, the film, titled The First Sunrise with You, sees a variety of characters welcoming the dawn in various settings.

Stealing the scenes from these characters are the leather goods in Bottega Veneta’s festive capsule collection, which are decorated with abstract details inspired by the dragon. These fun pieces include a Jodie hobo bag with a dragon-tail handle, sandals with dangling dragon charms, as well as vibrantly coloured sneakers.
