Most of us rely on our smart devices to do nearly everything these days, including taking photos and recording videos. But there’s only so much a smart device mounted on a selfie stick can capture – which is really not much. For those times when you want a reel of yourself skiing down Whistler, a majestic aerial view of the Grand Canyon, or just a mid-air recording of a birthday party, you’d want a drone to get the job done.
This is where leading drone maker DJI’s Inspire 1 Pro comes in. Aside from its kickass aesthetics – watch its transformation mid-air as it folds its legs after takeoff for an unobstructed view – the quadcopter takes 4K videos and 12-megapixel photos. Images are crisp, colourful and clean, and footage can be cropped without losing definition.
More importantly, the Inspire 1 Pro is designed to be easy to use. The DJI Go mobile app allows users to plot flight paths, launch flights, view a drone’s flight in HD and stream it live onto Youtube, capture photo and video shots remotely, and even edit videos – all from the touchscreen of your smart device. Fully charged, the drone is said to give about 15 minutes of flight time. It has a maximum range of 5km, and can fly up to an altitude of 120m at a top speed of 65kmh. Just remember to check with the local aviation authority before flying it.
