Luxury Homes: Less is more with this house on Miltonia Close
Elegance takes a minimalist form in Monocot Studio’s design of this dwelling.
Home to three generations, this three-storey house stands at 2,450 sq ft. The clients tasked Monocot Studio to design a house that was minimalist and spacious. It also had to be easy to clean as their grandchild, who was living with them, was allergic to dust.
In order to do so, the designers from Monocot Studio tore down the walls delineating space and opted to make the whole floor one room with a cabinet lining the side.
The cabinet not only made for concealed storage for everyday items in the household, but also doubled up as a TV cabinet, mirror and had movable benches to accommodate a larger party.
Material selection was also kept to the bare minimum. Only marble-inspired and timbre-inspired tiles, a timber veneer, and some brass were used throughout the house’s design. The result, however, is nothing short of elegant and luxurious, albeit being uncomplicated.
Lines are omnipresent in the space. Horizontal lines were repeatedly used to make the space feel more elongated and spacious.
Keeping with the theme of minimalism, the colour palette was thoughtfully curated by Monocot studio to complement the openness of the one unified space.
