Expect exquisite craftsmanship, seamless integration of smart technology and sustainability-forward design features with Marina Bay Sands’ most ambitious refurbishment programme since its opening in 2010.
Over 850 rooms in Towers 1 and 2 – about two-thirds of the rooms there – have been given a distinct makeover in the first wave of the integrated resort’s US$1 billion reinvestment programme. The iconic hotel, which was designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, has 1282 rooms in total.
Key to the renovation is a focus on Singapore’s multicultural environment, presented in the rooms’ design elements like a bedroom headboard that resembles a Chinese screen in a Peranakan shophouse as well as an Axminster wool carpet bearing a familiar motif you might find in textile shops on Arab Street.
A shiny black lacquered minibar with golden chinoiserie accents provide liquid comfort in the form of specialty coffee, tea and snacks, while an in-room cocktail trolley offers guests something a little stronger.
A US$1 billion hotel reinvestment programme
Other new hotel features range from motion-activated occupancy sensors and smart air-conditioning to wireless smartphone charging pods and eco-friendly amenity kits, along with a new mobile application that allows guests to completely forego the hassle of the conventional check-in process.
Soon to follow are the ultra-luxe suites in the two towers, bringing the total number of suites from 137 to a whopping 422, in light of skyrocketing demand for luxury travel.
Precise details on the refurbishment for the rest of the hotel, including Tower 3, the lobby and the iconic observation deck on the hotel’s 57th floor will be announced at a later date. For now, you can expect more upmarket dining options, health and wellness offerings and a revamped Executive Club lounge.
These will be complemented by Marina Bay Sand’s suite of new integrated offerings, such as tie-ups with nearby attractions and businesses to create “quintessential trails that focus on exploring Singapore’s multi-faceted charm in different ways” – think gastronomy, wellness, arts and culture at places like the Esplanade and Satay by the Bay. They are also working with 10 other luxury hotels to synergistically improve the area’s attractiveness for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences & exhibitions) events.
Back-to-back festivals featuring these same themes will also be held in the upcoming months at Marina Bay Sands, playing on the strengths of the integrated resort’s multi-faceted offerings. These include a two-week food and wine festival, Where Your Senses Feast from 15 to 28 May. The epicurean event will feature dining events by chefs such as Johanne Siy, Asia’s 50 Best Female Chef 2023, and renowned Australian chef-restaurateur Luke Mangan. Other events include a wellness-focused fete in mid-June and a week-long musical festival featuring an eclectic mix of international and local artistes in July.
