The Dior Book Tote has always been a bag you’d notice. Since its introduction in 2018, it has stood out for its boxy form, generous proportions, and exquisite embroidery.

Early versions were defined by the Dior Oblique canvas, toile de jouy motifs, and seasonal decorative themes — practical enough for daily use, yet distinctive enough to be instantly recognisable. It quickly became one of Dior’s modern signatures.

For Spring/Summer 2026, the Book Tote keeps its familiar shape but throws us an unexpected surprise.

Designed by Jonathan Anderson, the maison’s new creative director, who has served as Maria Grazia Chiuri’s successor since last June, this new collection draws on seminal works of literature.

Instead of patterns or monograms, the bags are designed to resemble classic book covers: Dracula, Madame Bovary, Les Fleurs du Mal, In Cold Blood, Ulysses, Bonjour Tristesse, and Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

There is also a special piece referencing Dior by Dior, the autobiography of the house’s founder, Christian Dior, that is adorned with a beautifully stitched pink ribbon border.

Typography, borders, and colour palettes are borrowed from old-school book jackets, then rendered in Dior’s signature embroidery.

The collection arrives at a moment when fashion is leaning into a vintage-inspired aesthetic popular online, known as Dark Academia or librariancore. Think tweed blazers, tailored coats, knit vests and scarves, loafers, muted tones, and thin-rimmed retro glasses.

Style aside, the Book Tote remains functional. It is offered in four sizes: mini, small, medium, and large. The smaller versions come with shoulder straps for hands-free wear, while the large tote features a magnetic closure for added security. Inside all, flat pockets keep everyday items organised.

You certainly do not need to have read the books to enjoy carrying one. Sometimes, a good bag just needs a good idea — and this one reads well at first glance.
