The luxury hotel scene in Sentosa is heating up with the opening of The Laurus, a Luxury Collection Resort in Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) in the third quarter of this year. The integrated resort announced the opening of its sixth hotel on 7 April, about a month after the opening of Raffles Sentosa Singapore, an all-villa resort on the island.
The Laurus will be an all-suite hotel with 183 rooms housed in a five-storey complex within RWS. It takes over the premises of Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, which is known for its free-form swimming pool over a sandy man-made beach and rock and roll-inspired decor. The Laurus is the second all-suite hotel to open in RWS after Crockfords Tower.
The new luxury hotel will blend Singapore’s tropical charm with historic colonial elegance in its decor across its five categories of suites, from Presidential Suite to Premier Suite King Pool View, function rooms and courtyard space. There will also be an outdoor swimming pool, gym, spa, bar and a new restaurant with an all-day dining concept. Booking of the suites, which are priced from $1,200 a night, will commence in May.
The Laurus will be Singapore’s first property under the Luxury Collection brand by hospitality giant, Marriott International. It comprises about 130 properties around the world, including Josun Palace in Seoul, The Athenee Hotel in Bangkok, The Sira in Lombok and ITC hotels in India.
Tan Hee Teck, Chief Executive Officer, RWS says: “The Laurus, a Luxury Collection Resort, embodies the very essence of our ongoing pivot to offer curated destination experiences as part of RWS’ transformational expansion plans. We are thrilled to invite guests to immerse themselves in Singapore’s rich heritage, reconnect with the captivating beauty of Sentosa’s lush flora and fauna while experiencing RWS’ hallmark hospitality, defined by unparalleled sophistication, outstanding quality and innovation.”
Last year, RWS announced plans to revitalise the 15-year-old integrated resort with a new waterfront development that comprises new hotels and an experiential mountain trail. It has also launched Minion Land in Universal Studios Singapore, and opened Sugarra, a Spanish fine-dining restaurant in January, and will rebrand the S.E.A. Aquarium as Singapore Oceanarium.
The Laurus is a partnership between Marriott International and RWS. Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International, says: “This milestone reflects our commitment in contributing to the evolving luxury landscape of this extraordinary island city. Drawing inspiration from Singapore’s storied past and rich cultural heritage, The Laurus, a Luxury Collection Resort, will celebrate the essence of the city.”
