[PHOTOS] The Peak’s Top 10 furniture picks at Salone del Mobile 2016, Milan

Starchitect collaborations and ritzy reissues set the tone at world’s largest furniture fair.

The city of Milan returns to its normal pace of life as the frantic Salone del Mobile drew to a close. Over six days in April, an unprecedented 372,151 people from across the world came to gawk at the wares of some 2,400 exhibitors at the largest and most important furniture fair in the world. Brands wowed the crowd with reissues and reinterpretations of long-forgotten gems from their back catalogues, while others showed off fresh creations with collaborating starchitects.

Marble, which has seen a recent resurgence of popularity, continues to be the hottest material for ultra-luxe tables and sideboards, while the world of fashion has lent its sartorial flair to upholstery fabrics. Here are 10 pieces from the fair that caught our attention.

  • Cassina ZH One armchair by Zaha Hadid

    As the world continues to come to terms with the untimely departure of one of the greatest architects of the modern era, we are reminded of the innate grace with which she treats geometric objects by a preview of her ZH One armchair. The low-back seat is a nuanced re-interpretation of the cube, cut with deep diagonal crevasses to create multiple chromatic variations in the fabric to accentuate its form.
