From early internet adopter to 4,000-strong division leader: For this ERA realtor, staying ahead has never been optional
From a single transaction to over $1 billion in sales, Alex Lim built his ERA division on digital strategy – and a belief in bringing others up with him

In 2006, Alex Lim noticed something others in the industry hadn’t yet acted on: Clients were quietly moving their property searches online. Rather than wait to see how things played out, he moved with them – building his practice around Google, YouTube and Facebook at a time when most realtors still relied on traditional channels.
“Many people thought what I did was a waste of time and money,” he recalls. “But I saw the way the internet was changing how people searched for information – including properties – and I wanted to be where the clients were.”
It proved to be the right call. Over the following decade, a series of digital campaigns built around personal branding and targeted content helped him transact over $1 billion in property sales.
Today, at 42, Alex is among the co-founders of the ERA Preeminent Group, ERA Realty’s largest division and its top-performing group in 2026, with a team of more than 4,000 agents. Through his advisory, Alex Lim Advisory, he trains agents in digital marketing and social media branding, helping them carve out their own space in an increasingly crowded market.
But his ascent wasn’t an easy one. Growing up in a single-parent home where money was often tight and opportunities were scarce, self-reliance and sheer grit, he says, have been key to his success.
“From the age of 16, I was doing sideline jobs just to have extra pocket money. I wasn’t thinking about career aspirations back then – I was thinking about survival and how I was going to take care of myself, so that my mum could retire.”
He joined the industry straight out of National Service when he was 22, with no networks or connections to his name. To win over first-time clients, he relied on a combination of “persistence, sincerity and empathy”.
For those willing to put their trust in him, he had no qualms going the extra mile to fulfil a deal – even if it meant jumping on a six-hour round trip flight in one day just to complete the paperwork for a high net worth family referred to him by a long-time client. According to him, such deals are more than just a transaction – they are the ultimate badge of trust in a relationship.
Having earned his stripes in the industry, his mission now is to help aspiring realtors find their footing. Success, he says, will come to those who understand the importance of building sincere relationships with clients, and are willing to work hard and constantly upgrade oneself to keep pace with changes in the market, much like how he’d done so all those years ago.
He says: “The next wave is artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. AI tools and property big data can help agents with data-driven insights for investment decisions, hyper-personalised client journeys, analysing price patterns and much more. The coming decade belongs to those who combine AI with human relationships; the ones who are high-tech and high-touch will lead and win in the industry.”
