Could you guess what diamond cuts are every Singaporean woman’s desire?
Hint: It’s not the classic round.

It is a little unexpected seeing the Marquise Cut triumph over classic shapes like Round and Cushion Cuts, says a spokesperson for M&B Private Jewelers. Located in Orchard Road as well as Hong Kong, the company has recently concluded a study, based on 12 months of Google search data, on the popularity of diamond cuts among Singaporeans.
Right at the top of the podium is the Princess Cut, followed by the Marquise and Pear. “The princess cut makes sense — it’s bold and sparkly with sharp corners, and that allows people to show off their individual style,” he adds.
On the first and second runner-ups, he elaborates, “The Marquise is long, elegant, and really eye-catching — it looks different on everyone, which is part of the charm. And the Pear shape is super-classic with a twist; graceful but not boring. You don’t realise how striking these cuts are until you see them on your own hand.”
The results show that today’s consumers prize their unique preferences over long-held conventions. “The Round Cut was always the go-to as it’s timeless, safe, and very sparkly. Cushion Cuts had their moment too, especially for their vintage vibes. But now, it’s less about what’s traditional and more about what feels personal.”
So what’s your favourite cut for an engagement ring, daily-wearing earrings, or an heirloom rock? And does your choice resonate with other diamond fanciers? Find out in the final rankings below.

1. Princess Cut
The Princess Cut clinched the top spot, with a combined 400 searches per month. A perfect square exuding modernity and sass, it boasts exceptional scintillation thanks to brilliant facetting, which is a style that combines triangular and kite-shaped facets that radiate outwards from the stone centre. With up to 78 facets and a large table size, it is sure to turn heads.

2. Marquise Cut
Coming up a close second is the Marquise Cut with 310 monthly searches. It is similar to the round cut with 57 facets, but thanks to its long, boat-shaped silhouette that tapers into pointed ends, its length can be twice its width. This exotic cut compliments those with long, slender fingers, and gives the illusion of a greater size compared to a round-cut diamond with the same carat weight. It also exudes a regal old-world charm.

3. Pear Cut
The elegant Pear Cut came in third with 170 monthly searches. A classic favourite resembling a tear drop, it boasts 58 facets that showcases the ultimate brilliance of the round cut, yet bears the elongated elegance of the Marquise. In addition, it offers the styling versatility of wearing the stone with the pointed end facing towards or away from the wrist.

4. Asscher Cut
Snagging fourth place is the Asscher Cut with 120 searches per month. Named after its creator, 19th-century diamond-cutter Joseph Asscher, it has a one-of-a-kind square shape with stepped facets and cropped corners, creating a mesmerising hall-of-mirrors effect. Its deep pavilion and high crown also impart an Art Deco-inspired glamour, and shows off more of a diamond’s clarity.

5. Oval Cut
With 110 monthly searches, the Oval Cut is nearly as popular as the Asscher. Very similar to the round cut, this version stretches the 57-facet shape across its surface, giving a bigger appearance for the same carat weight. It has an elongating effect that flatters thicker fingers, and oozes understated elegance.

6. Round Cut
The most common in diamonds, the Round Cut is the only one not considered a “Fancy Cut”. Here it takes sixth position, at 90 searches every month. A cut consumers are most familiar with, it boasts maximum brilliance that ensures its popularity in jewellery design for accent diamonds, typically in pave and micro–pave settings or as a halo around the main gemstone.

7. Emerald Cut
With stepped facets like the Asscher, the Emerald takes the 7th spot, pulling in 60 searches per month. With a clean and sophisticated rectangular shape bearing 57 facets, it typically features edges parallel to one another. Excellent for showing off the colour and clarity of a stone, it is a good choice for a statement diamond. A ring with a centre stone in this cut also stacks perfectly with Emerald-Cut eternity rings.

8. Radiant Cut
In 8th place is the lesser-known Radiant Cut, with 30 searches every month. Taking on the emerald’s geometric profile, but with a high crown, trimmed corners and the pavilion facets converging on the tip, it affords a sparkle much more fiery than the former. Offering a great balance between colour and shine, it suits fancy-coloured diamonds perfectly, especially the yellow ones.

9. Heart Cut
Tied with the Radiant Cut, also at 30 monthly searches, the Heart Cut is true to its name. The most figurative symbol of love, it requires a master cutter to produce a proportionate shape of 57 brilliant facets with two symmetrical, curvaceous lobes. For this cut, larger carat sizes are often preferred to ensure the heart’s distinct form remains well-defined.

10. Cushion Cut
In last place with only 20 searches per month is the Cushion Cut. Shaped like a pillow, it has a soft and rounded square or rectangular profile. Superb for light dispersion, resulting in the effect known as fire, this cut is made of larger facets to achieve plenty of that rainbow sparkle diamonds are known for.
