Following their first collaboration in 2020, popular independent brands H. Moser & Cie and MB&F team up again to create the Streamliner Pandamonium, a unique timepiece for charity auction Only Watch. The auction raises funds for the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy.

The one-off timepiece brings together H. Moser elements such as the Streamliner case with integrated bracelet, and the brand’s double hairspring, as well as MB&F signatures such as a large suspended wheel and the panda — the creature that has become a hallmark of MB&F’s Only Watch creations.

Why it's special

Chiming the time in hours, quarters and minutes, minute repeaters are serious business in watchmaking. The Streamliner Pandamonium reimagines this high complication in a modern and playful way with its tiny DJ-ing panda.

Making the creature, however, was serious business: Measuring just 5.35mm in height, the white-gold miniature was sculpted and decorated entirely by hand. Thanks to the tiny scale of the components, including a muzzle measuring just 0.9mm across, creating the panda was a process that took “countless hours” of design and development, modelling, manufacturing, engraving, polishing and painting.

Set against a minimalist fumé dial in a new Aquamarine colourway, the chiming mechanism allows viewers to enjoy the sight of the hammers striking the gongs. To allow for the hand-wound H. Moser HMC 906 calibre to be cased from the top instead of from underneath, a new removable bezel was developed.

In order to retain the proportions and form of the Streamliner case, the slide that activates the minute repeater was built into the mainplate, while the case middle was hollowed out to accommodate the movement while still allowing enough space to create a soundbox to amplify sound. This timepiece is certainly going to make major noise at the Only Watch auction on November 5.
