We can’t help swooning over the jewels of Pacharee, just like Hollywood and fashion designer Phillip Lim

You might have seen the pieces by Sophie Schuemers-Rogerson on K-pop star Lisa in The White Lotus, or Phillip Lim’s recent 20th anniversary collection.

In February 2025, Thai jeweller Pacharee made history by collaborating with New York designer Phillip Lim on his 20th anniversary collection — a full-circle moment for founder Sophie Schuemers-Rogers, who began her career in fashion design.

Schuemers-Rogers was initially reluctant to enter the jewellery industry, resisting the path of her gemologist father. But fate had other plans. A week before a photo shoot for her fashion collection, she felt like something was missing.

On impulse, she designed six pieces of jewellery, and called the family goldsmith to work on them. “There wasn’t even a close-up on these jewels in the shoot. But once posted I received so many queries on them.”

As a child of a gemologist, Sophie Schuemers-Rogers grew up with “weirdly shaped pearls” that have become her signature

She persevered with her fashion line for a few more years, but realised that jewellery was her true calling. “My father was a gemologist who specialised in pearls, rubies and sapphires. I grew up with vivid memories of raw gemstones and weirdly shaped pearls (my definition then as a child) coming through my dad’s office.”

These “weirdly-shaped pearls” would become her muse at Pacharee. Defined by an organic, hand-sculpted aesthetic, her designs celebrate the raw beauty of natural forms. “I was just never into round pearls — I guess it’s a thing of either you love realism or abstract art,” she muses.

The beauty of raw gemstones is another source of inspiration for the creator

Her earliest jewellery designs reflected this philosophy, with hand-sculpted textures inspired by soil and the moon. “I wanted to create something that complemented the natural shapes of pearls and gemstones, rather than forcing them into conventional forms.”

Pacharee’s pieces embrace the beauty of imperfection — freeform silhouettes with no sharp edges or defined shapes. They look as if they could have been discovered in the wild. Take, for instance, the brand’s hoop earrings: a hand-engraved gold setting opens slightly to reveal a row of abstract pearls, reminiscent of peas in a pod.

Exceptional goldworking is required for Pacharee’s free-form, organic designs

Because of the organic nature of her creations, each piece is unique. “Every one of our pieces takes around 12 to 21 days to produce. Since we work with highly individual shaped materials, we can’t use mould in our process which makes each piece truly one-of-a-kind,” says Schuemers-Rogers.

While her collaboration with 3.1 Phillip Lim might have made Pacharee a household name, it was far from the brand’s first brush with fame. The brand’s pieces have been worn by Blackpink’s Lisa Manobal, Sarah Jessica Parker in And Just Like That, and featured on The White Lotus.

And this, we believe, is just the beginning for the dynamic jeweller.
