With the world still actively battling Covid-19 and gatherings here still limited to eight, many of us are probably not in the most festive of moods even with Chinese New Year (CNY) barely a month away. Nonetheless, we still recommend lifting those spirits by putting on clothing or carrying accessories that get one in a more celebratory frame of mind. And hey, it might even bring you luck. Here are a few seasonal options from some of the coolest brands.

1) Dior Men

Just as you thought you had seen the last of the collaborative designs between Dior Men’s Kim Jones and Shawn Stussy of Stussy fame, they pair up again to bring fans a CNY capsule collection. Following the success of their Fall/Winter 2020 partnership, the pair now put their respective signatures on a range of festive ready-to-wear and accessories.

Key motifs include the ox, plenty of red and the new logo used on the earlier Dior X Shawn Stussy pieces. You’ll find these motifs on sportswear such as a jersey hoodie, sweaters, a two-tone reversible shirt and a vintage-style bomber. Also part of this capsule: Saddle and Rider bags, sneakers, jewellery and card holders.

2) Moncler

For its CNY pieces, Moncler merges the ox motif with depictions of the constellations in the night sky. The images are found across items such as long-sleeved shirts, a jacket and a cap. To highlight the collection, the luxury skiwear brand partnered with up-and-coming Chinese photographer Leslie Zhang, who shot campaign images inspired by “kung fu, uniforms and traditional Chinese architecture”.

3) Saint Laurent

Yes, you will find lots of red and ox images in Saint Laurent’s festive range. (And frankly, if you’re not going to dress a bit more loudly during traditional festivals, then when?) But the brand is also proposing other less obvious options, including accessories with horn motifs (such as a bracelet and a necklace) and cow-print calf-hair booties and bags. Ox-picious (sorry).
