Halloween just isn’t the same this year.
For one, the annual Halloween Horror Nights held by Universal Studios Singapore has been reported
missing from this year’s Halloween calendar for the first time since its inception in 2011 due to
Covid-19 restrictions.
Nor will there be any of the usual spooky affairs at your favourite nightspots: after all, we’re still
limited to five. Bloody Marys (in cocktail form or otherwise) won’t be making an appearance after
10.30pm, which does put a damper on things.
But hey, look on the bright side. It’s the perfect time to whip out your sexy nurse or killer surgeon
outfit without looking too out of place. We’re not making any guarantees that there won’t be
repeats among other revellers in the vicinity though.

Black Tap – The Halloween Shake
Known for its terrifically calorific shakes, Black Tap returns with The Halloween Shake: a towering,
whimsical drink – if we can even call it that. After all, they’re called CrazyShakes. Available only from
October 30 to November 1, you’ve got three scant days to get your hands on a chocolate-based
giant that comes with a vanilla-and-candy-corn frosted rim, a whole chocolate cupcake emblazoned
with a spiderweb motif, and orange rock candy, twisty pops and sprinkles. And this is just one shake.
Just remember, if you don’t see the spider, it means that the arachnid is still very much alive.
#L1-80, The Shoppes At Marina Bay Sands. Tel: 6688-9957.

The Summerhouse – Little Red Riding Hood
The Summerhouse goes old-school with their Little Red Riding Hood-themed Halloween night. That
means a fresh coat of paint for their garden domes, as well as a sumptuous four-course menu
(though grandma is no longer part of the menu). As it happens, authentic French farm-to-table lends
itself well to a game-focused menu. Starters include a foie gras and pork terrine slathered in onion
jam, as well as a mushroom and leek dumpling swimming in guinea fowl consomme. Thereafter,
there’s coq au vin – though they’ve opted for a duck version here – or venison bourguignon. Available
from October 26 – 31.

TXA Pintxo Bar, The Alkaff Mansion – Money Heist
Fans of the popular Spanish television series Money Heist can look forward to a night playing out
their resistance-joining, bank-robbing fantasies (sans machine guns and hostages). First off, you’d
get some pre-dinner entertainment with red origami paper to fold a la the Professor while waiting
for your food. Speaking of food, expect themed bar bites like The Professor’s Bloodshot Eggs, a
combination of chorizo, caramelised onions and quail egg on baguette, as well as cocktails like
Palermo’s Bloody Eyeball – a reference to the second heist’s mercurial commander, who gets
fragments of glass in his eye when the scheme predictably starts to go wrong. The waiters will be
clad in the iconic Salvador Dali masks and red jumpsuits for the night – but then again, you won’t
really know who’s under the mask. Available from October 30 to November 1.
10 Telok Blangah Green. Tel: 8123-8484.

Shangi-La Hotel, Singapore – The Line & Shophouse
Buffets are, sadly, still a la carte. That doesn’t mean they aren’t worth a trip down – especially when
considering The Line’s Halloween-themed line-up. The names of dishes, though somewhat kooky,
belie the artisanship and great ingredients behind each and every of the more-than-88 items on the
menu. Alternatively, there’s always a selection of sweet Halloween treats from Shophouse by
Shangri-La. They’ve got show-stopping pinatas, fashioned after classic horror icons like the zombie,
or something a little more 2019, the Joker. Else, look forward to other saccharine desserts like
monster cookies and a trio of spooky French pastries. The buffet dinner is available on October 31,
6pm – 10pm, while the desserts will be available from October 12 – 31 here.
22 Orange Grove Road. Tel: 6213-4398.

W Singapore – Butcher’s Halloween
Head down to W Singapore on Halloween for a bloodthirsty feast that features the best of the
eponym’s cuts from his gruesome pantry. He’s even managed to get some fresh seafood, thanks to
some unlucky, if useful, sailors passing by Sentosa. Expect carnivorous delights like char-grilled
octopus and pastrami, as well as The Bloody Butcher’s Board, a communal feast packed to the gills
with supple flesh to tear into. Highlights include the Sailors’ Leftovers (sirloin topped with
chimichurri) and Mary’s Little Lamb (char-grilled lamb chop served along its own rosemary-infused
drippings – unfortunately, no longer accompanying its owner). Thereafter, an overflowing platter of
seafood and a mystery dessert end off the meal. Only one question remains: why is the Butcher
fattening you up? Something to ponder until the fateful day – the Butcher advises you to arrive
punctually at 7.30pm on October 31, lest you become the main course.
21 Ocean Way, Sentosa. Tel: 6808-7268.
