Local favourites you can get delivered in Singapore today even during the coronavirus outbreak

Comfort food for delivery throughout Singapore today like dim sum and bak kut teh for some much-needed respite amid the coronavirus measures.

Not only restaurants are feeling the pinch from circuit breaker measures – home-grown franchises and local eateries are facing the same challenges. We can lend our support to Singapore’s very own establishments through the coronavirus outbreak by ordering delivery or takeaway today.

Some delivery companies have also stepped up to the plate to provide support during the coronavirus outbreak. Foodpanda takes no commission on orders for the first month of new signups. It’s also working with local food delivery company Whyq to offer up to 35 per cent off on hawker fares, with the discount borne by the two companies.

Says Joshua Pillai, managing director of entertainment consultancy A Phat Cat Collective, “While it’s a tough time, we urge Singaporeans to keep their spirits high, stay safe at home and not let the circuit breaker get in their way of positivity. During this period, every little bit of support for local F&B businesses, musicians and DJs can go a long way.”

Second-generation owner of Founder Bak Kut Teh Nigel Chua took to Facebook yesterday to appeal for Singapore’s help by supporting local businesses. Their recently-launched Mama’s Home-cooked dishes menu features classics like assam steamed fish or surprises like white braised duck. Available for delivery island-wide or for takeaway (don’t forget a bowl or three of their signature peppery bak kut teh that they’ve been serving for over 40 years). Contact them at 8896-5136.

Taiwanese eatery The Salted Plum (featured below), along with Ola Beach club, Olivia & Co and Mr Biryani are also participating in Octava Foundation’s Covid-19 initiative with Agape Connecting People, a contact centre that aims to impact and rebuild lives. The foundation will be sponsoring meals for staffers manning the Covid-19 National Hotline for a total of 50 days.

    The Salted Plum

    The Salted Plum - previously known as Five Ten - that serves up classic Taiwanese comfort food catered to Singaporean tastes. Meanwhile, local F&B Point of Sale vendor iChef is listing F&B operators that are offering delivery and takeaway on their site (registration needed). Hawkers, one of the most vulnerable groups in the ecosystem, have taken to this Facebook group to  list their delivery and takeaway options.
