Sweet, rich, warm: How this limited-edition single malt whisky will remind you of the year’s first dawn
Mark the season of gifting with The Macallan’s tribute to cherished memories and new beginnings

There’s something almost sacred about witnessing the first sunrise of a new year.
It’s a moment in time that holds both memory and promise, and it’s precisely this sentiment that Scotch whisky distillery The Macallan captures in its latest limited-edition expression, A Night on Earth: The First Light.
The fourth release in The Macallan’s A Night on Earth series, The First Light draws inspiration from New Zealand, one of the first places on earth to welcome the new year.
As the sun’s early rays touch the Pacific horizon, this single malt honours the symbolic renewal of dawn, when the old of yesteryear fades into memory and the promise of tomorrow glows with potential.
It’s a poetic continuation of The Macallan’s annual exploration of global New Year traditions, which started in 2021 from Scotland’s Hogmanay festivities to Spain’s Andalusian revelry.
For this year, it is the spirit of new beginnings that is encapsulated in every drop of The Macallan’s A Night on Earth: The First Light.
Crafted from a harmonious combination of sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks, with a touch of bourbon oak to lend gentle sweetness, the whisky offers a sensorial dawn of its own. It features bright berry compote and caramelised marshmallow on the palate, the golden glow of vanilla and Manuka honey on the nose – a nod to New Zealand – and a finish of mellow spice that lingers like the warmth of morning light.
A story told through art and craft
The Macallan’s collaboration with New Zealand-based artist Bonnie Brown gives this edition a distinctive visual and emotional resonance.
Artist Bonnie Brown’s layered illustrations show what a Southern Hemisphere New Year’s Eve looks like, complete with beach bonfires and a first-dawn swim.
Brown’s layered illustrations – sunset, celebration and first light – mirror the rhythm of a Southern Hemisphere New Year’s Eve, where festivities often stretch from beach bonfires into the first-dawn swim. Rendered in a palette of coastal warmth and Pohutukawa blossoms, the artwork reflects both joy and reflection, connection and continuity.
In a world that too often rushes through celebration, A Night on Earth: The First Light invites a pause, to toast the quiet joys of transition.
At 43 per cent ABV, it balances depth and delicacy, best savoured slowly, perhaps with something sweet and bright such as a pavlova or a berry tart. But ideally on a clear night with good company.
Behind every special moment is a meticulously controlled process to ensure every drop meets the distillery’s highest standards of excellence.
Savour A Night on Earth: The First Light with a favourite dessert, with fine company, or on its own while soaking in the moment under a clear sky.
Each cask for A Night on Earth: The First Light was nosed for quality by The Macallan’s Whisky Mastery Team, with an average of 636 sensory checks to be satisfied before bottling to guarantee the incomparable quality that defines The Macallan.
As The Macallan’s whisky maker Russell Greig puts it, this release is “about light – its cultural symbolism and sensory warmth… this is a whisky designed to be gifted, shared, and enjoyed with friends and family”.
The Macallan A Night on Earth: The First Light is available for $175 at The Macallan House Singapore, online at www.themacallan.com and at select retailers.
