Would you spend upwards of $100,000 for a precision-engineered handbag?

At Marina Bay Sands, Abel Richard brings engineering-driven handbags — crafted like machines, priced like art — into Asia for the first time.

Ultra-luxury label Abel Richard has arrived in Singapore with its first Asian flagship at Marina Bay Sands, choosing our city as its gateway to collectors across the region.

This, however, is not a conventional high-end retail space. The boutique is conceived like a gallery, where each handbag is displayed individually, inviting close inspection of its structure, materials, and finishing.

Founded by entrepreneur Abel Richard Bullock and produced in Italy’s Bassano del Grappa (yes, also the home of the famous grape-based spirit), the brand sits at the intersection of craftsmanship and engineering.

Instead of beginning with leather patterns, designs start with technical blueprints. Frames are constructed from titanium, aerospace-grade alloys, ceramics, and carbon fibre — materials more commonly found in Formula racing and high-performance automotive manufacturing.

This approach is reflected in the time it takes to produce each piece. A single bag can require more than 1,000 hours of work, combining precision machining with hand-finishing techniques typically associated with fine watchmaking.

The result is a category of handbag that leans closer to collectible design than seasonal fashion. Prices start at around $100,000 and can exceed $1.2 million for highly embellished pieces set with precious stones.

That pricing, while eyebrow-raising, is central to the brand’s intent. Abel Richard produces in extremely limited quantities, positioning its creations as heirloom objects for collectors who value rarity, engineering, and long-term value over trend cycles.

Singapore joins Beverly Hills, Miami, and Dubai in the brand’s growing footprint, with New York and London expected to follow. The strategy is clear: establish a presence in a handful of global luxury capitals, and build a clientele that sees handbags not as accessories — but as objects worth collecting.

Now it’s up to certain discerning individuals to decide whether it’s worth an investment.
