Filipino health tech startup, Kindred Health Inc. raised $5.5 Million from investors for their Pre-Series A funding round. These funds will help the company scale, as they plan to open up several new physical clinics in the upcoming year.
Kindred souls
Kindred Health is a healthcare start-up that offers accessible and tailored healthcare services for women, primarily women from the Philippines. It began as a virtual clinic during the pandemic, back in 2021.
Since then, Kindred has expanded offline. In 2023, they raised $1 million in seed funding and opened their first physical clinic in Taguig City, to better meet the needs of its clients. This is pertinent as some health services for women necessitate physical checkups, such as ultrasounds.
In the present, the start-up has partnered with more than 70 doctors with expertise across 25 specialities. The services offered range from physical health, like OBGyn consultations and immunisations, to physical wellness with nutrition and fitness coaching, as well as mental health services.
Upscaling
Kindred Health now serves more than 20,000 women with this single clinic.
To keep up with the demand, it will be launching 11 clinics by the end of the year, starting with one in Quezon City in July. A number of these clinics will be located in underserved areas to ensure that as many women across the Philippines have access to high quality healthcare.
The health start-up will also launch new services, tailored to issues such as infertility and menopause. Besides offering health consultations with regards to these services, Kindred will also aim to educate women to help them make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
"We are deeply grateful to our investors for their trust and belief in our mission. This will enable us to scale our services, improve our technology, and increase our capacity to better serve our clients, paving the way for future generations of women in the Philippines," said Jessica de Mesa-Lim, Co-Founder and CEO of Kindred.
Pre-Series A
This successful funding round will help Kindred expand their wealth of services and open more offline clinics. Kindred raised $2.5 million in the first tranche, and secured commitments for a further $3 million in the second tranche once they complete key milestones.
The funding round was led by Integra partners. Key investors include organisations, like venture capital, Kaya Founders, as well as individuals such as photographer Ava Zobel Pessina, and Dr. Frans Beltran and Micaela Beltran. Kindred also receives guidance from healthcare-focused venture builder Pulse63 Healthcare Ventures.
Jennifer Ho, partner at Integra Partners, said, “At Integra, we believe that women’s health is a huge market opportunity in Southeast Asia and globally, especially as the healthcare industry starts to gain a deeper understanding of how women manifest different symptoms and respond to treatments differently across a range of diseases and conditions.”
“It’s been a privilege to work with Jess to map out the future of Kindred and how it can serve this burgeoning market.”
