The H. Moser & Cie. watch designed by Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly is probably nothing like you’d imagine

Macho, skeletonised, steel? No, the limited-edition Streamliner Tourbillon collaboration between independent Swiss watchmaker H. Moser & Cie. and Pierre Gasly is understated and sleek, just like the F1 star.

Some collaborations in the luxury world feel contrived, like little more than branding exercises. But then there are those born of true creative dialogue, where two worlds unexpectedly align. The partnership between H. Moser & Cie. and BWT Alpine Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly sits firmly in the latter camp.

The result of their work together is the Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly, a watch collection freshly unveiled at a grand party at Le Pristine, timed perfectly with the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.

Unlike many celebrity-fronted timepieces, the French racer did not simply lend his name to the watch. Instead, he immersed himself in the process, shaping its design down to the smallest detail. “I didn’t want to just put my name on a watch,” he says. “This piece reflects what I like, my taste, what I wanted to achieve. Some people might love it, some might not — but it’s authentically me.”

The collaboration traces its roots to Alpine’s move towards partnering with H. Moser & Cie. almost two years ago. Recalls Edouard Meylan, CEO of H. Moser & Cie, “It might sound surprising, but it was Alpine who came to us. They wanted to elevate the Alpine brand and saw parallels between us: both underdogs in their industries, both passionate about innovation and precision.”

A historic first

It was through Alpine that Meylan first met Gasly — and the chemistry was immediate. “We were impressed not just by his passion for watches but also by his depth of knowledge about design and art. He started giving us feedback on our watches right away, and you could see he had a very sharp eye.”

The relationship between the maison and the driver quickly deepened. “Pierre is not somebody covered in logos,” says Meylan. “He’s refined, passionate about design, and discreet. That’s pure Moser spirit. The chemistry was undeniable.”

For Gasly, the appeal lies in Moser’s independence and understated philosophy. “What I love is that Moser doesn’t shout. There’s no big logo on the dial, no unnecessary branding. It’s subtle, elegant, but at the same time, very powerful,” he explains.

That bond also marked a turning point in Moser’s 197-year history. Pierre Gasly became the first-ever official ambassador of H. Moser & Cie. Meylan elaborates, “We’ve never had an ambassador before, and we’ve never sought one,” Meylan emphasises. “But with Pierre, it was different. This wasn’t about marketing — it was about creating something meaningful together.”

In Gasly’s eyes, this recognition was equally significant. “To be the first ambassador of such a historic maison is an honour,” he adds. “It’s not just about wearing a watch; it’s about being part of the story, working with the watchmakers, and creating something that will last.”

Something different

Their first creative session took place at British race circuit Silverstone in June 2024. And Gasly arrived with a crystal-clear brief: rose gold, brown tones, the Streamliner case, 40mm in size, and, most importantly, a flying tourbillon. “I’ve always been fascinated by the tourbillon,” he notes. “There’s something hypnotic about its constant motion. I could look at it for hours. It reminds me of Formula 1 — the technical precision, the pursuit of excellence.”

Meylan, who expected the driver to lean towards a skeletonised or sporty chronograph, was taken aback. “He surprised us. He didn’t want a racing watch; he wanted his dream Moser. Something understated, elegant and gentlemanly. And that told me a lot about Pierre himself.”

The final design is faithful to Gasly’s vision. Crafted in 5N red gold, the 40mm watch is available in two iterations. The first, limited to 100 pieces, pairs the warm glow of red gold with a chocolate fume dial and a matching integrated rubber strap. The second, a 10-piece exclusive, elevates the design with an integrated red gold bracelet and a subtle baguette-cut ruby set at 10 o’clock — a nod to Gasly’s racing number.

“When you get to Formula 1, you choose your number for life,” Gasly explains. “For me, 10 has always been lucky. I won a championship with it in 2013, and Zinedine Zidane, my childhood idol, wore the number on his jersey too. That’s why I carried it into F1, and it had to be on the watch.”

Initially, Gasly thought he would prefer the rubber strap, but realised the gold bracelet with curved links proposed by the H. Moser & Cie. team added another dimension to the design. “I thought the rubber would be my favourite — sporty, casual, perfect for everyday wear. But then I tried the gold bracelet, and honestly, I loved it. It’s a statement. Strong, elegant, and a bit unexpected.”

At the heart of both versions lies the HMC 805 calibre, an automatic movement with a one-minute flying tourbillon visible at six o’clock. Its double hairspring, developed by H. Moser’s sister company Precision Engineering, improves isochronism and accuracy. Indeed, its technical refinement echoes Formula 1’s obsession with microseconds. With a three-day power reserve and 120m of water resistance, the watch is built not only for beauty but also resilience.

The dial, personally named “chocolate fume” by Gasly, embodies his personality: subtle, rich, and quietly distinctive. “It’s profound, a little mysterious,” says Meylan. “Very much like Pierre himself – precise and focused as a driver, yet warm and approachable in person.”

More than a timepiece

Owners of the 100-piece edition will receive a miniature helmet designed with Gasly’s input. And not only will the star himself wear the new full-sized helmet at the Singapore Grand Prix, those fortunate enough to secure one of the ultra-exclusive 10-piece version will also receive a full-size replica. Both are available through Sincere Fine Watches.

These select buyers will also enjoy personal experiences with the driver, from shared dinners to games of golf or paddle tennis. And as much as Gasly is known for his keen fashion sense, this deeply personal project has elevated his own range for creativity. “That watch is exactly me. My name is only on the back; it’s not about big logos. The connection is subtle — the ruby at 10 o’clock, the colour, the style. That’s the way I wanted it.”

And it is also about legacy. “In Formula 1, my goal is clear: I want to be world champion. That’s what drives me every day. But I also want to build things that last, things that reflect who I am outside the track. This watch is part of that.”

What he discovered during the creation process also deepened his appreciation for watchmaking. “It reminds me of Formula 1. People see the race on Sunday, but they don’t see the 1,500 people behind the scenes, working on every tiny detail. It’s the same with watches — people see the finished piece, but when you go to the manufacture, you find out about the craftsmanship and teamwork that goes into every single part. That gave me a whole new respect for the industry.”

As for the choice of Singapore for the launch, Meylan says that it is deliberate. “The energy of Singapore, the night lights, the humidity, the sound of engines bouncing off skyscrapers — it’s cinematic.”

Gasly himself hopes collectors in Singapore and beyond feel the watch’s power and presence. “It’s an elegant piece, but also a confident one. When you wear it, I hope you feel that same strength and connection that I do.”

For Meylan, the collaboration reaffirms H. Moser’s daring identity. “We’re not a brand that follows the rules. We are independent, bold, and sometimes unconventional. This watch proves that we can create something authentic with someone like Pierre — not because it’s trendy, but because it makes sense.”
