Patek Philippe Nautilus turns 50 with four limited-edition anniversary watches
The 2026 Nautilus anniversary collection revisits the design codes of the 1976 original with three ultra-thin wristwatches and the first Nautilus desk watch.

The luxury sports watch has become one of the defining categories of contemporary watchmaking, but when Patek Philippe’s Nautilus arrived in 1976, it challenged many of the conventions that defined a high-end timepiece.
Crafted in steel and shaped neither round nor rectangular, its distinctive case featured an octagonal bezel with softened corners and took its functional inspiration from a ship’s porthole. More importantly, that form followed function: The original two-part case construction was conceived to deliver water resistance while maintaining an unusually slender profile.
That combination of technical purpose and unconventional design shaped the Nautilus into one of horology’s most iconic and coveted watches.
Its signatures have proved remarkably enduring over five decades, from the horizontally embossed dial and integrated bracelet to the contrasting polished and satin-brushed finishes. Complications, precious metals, different sizes, and special editions have followed, but the design has remained instantly recognisable.
For the Nautilus’ 50th anniversary this year, Patek Philippe is looking back to those fundamentals. The four limited editions introduced for 2026 celebrate the proportions, architecture, and slenderness that have defined the watch from the beginning.
Nautilus Ref. 5810/1G-001 and 5810G-001
Leading the anniversary series are two large-size models that revisit the Nautilus in its most pared-back form. Both references share a 41mm white gold case and return to a simple hours-and-minutes display, placing the focus firmly on the case geometry and dial character.
The construction remains faithful to the original two-part architecture, while the profile has been refined to a remarkably slim 6.9mm. This thinness is central to the watch’s appeal, reinforcing the balance between robustness and elegance that has defined the Nautilus since its inception.
Inside is the ultra-thin self-winding calibre 240, just 2.53mm in height, a movement introduced in 1977 and closely tied to the early history of the collection. Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, its 22k gold mini-rotor is engraved “50 1976 – 2026” for the anniversary.
Both models feature a blue sunburst dial with the Nautilus’ signature horizontal relief embossing, paired with rounded baton-style white gold hour and minute hands filled with white luminescent coating. Their personalities diverge for other attributes.
Ref. 5810/1G-001 is fitted with a white gold bracelet, with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces amplifying the case’s distinctive lines. Its applied white gold baton-style hour markers are treated with white luminescent coating. Limited to 2,000 pieces, it is secured by Patek Philippe’s patented fold-over clasp with a lockable adjustment system.
The 1,000-piece Ref. 5810G-001, by contrast, is matched with a navy blue composite strap with a fabric motif and contrasting cream stitching. Its applied white gold hour markers are set with baguette-cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.39ct for a touch of precious shimmer.
Nautilus Ref. 5610/1P-001
If the 41mm models speak to contemporary preferences, this 38mm Ref. 5610/1P-001 revisits a different chapter of Nautilus history. Its proportions mark the return of the Medium format, recalling Ref. 3800/1, the first medium-sized Nautilus launched in the 1980s.
That format was itself revived for the collection’s 30th anniversary in 2006 as Ref. 5800/1A. Here too, the approach is resolutely minimalist, with a display limited to hours and minutes.
The 6.9mm-thick platinum case, with a bracelet continuing the alternating satin-brushed and polished finishes, underscores the same pursuit of slenderness seen across the anniversary pieces. As with all Patek Philippe platinum watches, a diamond is discreetly set into the case. For the first time, it appears within the Nautilus hinge at nine o’clock, a small detail that distinguishes the anniversary execution.
The dial remains faithful to the Nautilus codes: a blue sunburst surface with horizontal embossing, paired with white gold applied hour markers and rounded baton-style hands with white luminescent coating.
At its core is once again the calibre 240, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, with its 22k gold mini-rotor engraved “50 1976 – 2026”. Reference 5610/1P-001 is limited to 2,000 pieces.
Nautilus Ref. 958G-001
With Ref. 958G-001, the Nautilus takes on an unexpected new form altogether, becoming a desk watch for the first time while preserving all the defining elements of the Nautilus.
At 50.65mm in diameter and 13.5mm thin, the white gold case translates the proportions of the wristwatch into a format suited for the desk. Staying true to identity, it maintains the signature two-part case construction, octagonal bezel with rounded corners, and interplay of polished and satin-brushed surfaces.
While the dial stays familiar with a blue sunburst finish and horizontal relief embossing, it is elevated by white gold hour markers set with baguette-cut diamonds totalling 0.96ct. Rounded baton-style white gold hands with luminescent coating indicate the hours and minutes.
Its movement, however, marks a departure from convention. First introduced in 2025 in the Calatrava 8-Day Ref. 5328G-001, the manually wound calibre 31-505 8J PS IRM CI J delivers eight full days of running autonomy through two barrels connected in series, with a ninth day held in reserve. It also incorporates a Pulsomax escapement in Silinvar and a Spiromax balance spring.
Apart from hours and minutes, the dial indications also present an instantaneous day display, instantaneous date by hand, small seconds, and an eight-day power-reserve indicator.
The hinged cover on the back showcases a blue sunburst, horizontally embossed decoration centred by an applied white gold Calatrava cross. Beneath it, a ring encircling the sapphire crystal is engraved “50th Anniversary Nautilus 1976 – 2026 Patek Philippe”.
The hinge mechanism cleverly doubles as a support, keeping the desk watch stable and legible when placed on a surface.
Limited to just 100 pieces, this creation is the rarest of the four anniversary editions and perhaps the clearest demonstration of how far the Nautilus design can travel while remaining universally unmistakable..
