Japanese watchmaker Orient honours Singapore again with the SG60 Bambino set

It took two years to get this pair of anniversary watches approved and put in production.

Following its release of the SG50 edition a decade ago, Orient has once again paid tribute to Singapore with its elegant Bambino collection. For our 60th year of independence, the Japanese watchmaker based the two special editions on the new 38mm Bambino.

And no doubt thanks to the 75-year-old brand’s loyal collector base here, this decision was not taken lightly. Initiated by Orient’s exclusive distributor BIG Time Singapore, it took two years for this series to be green-lit, along with multiple design changes before finally being manufactured.

This is Orient’s second Singapore-exclusive tribute, with the first being the SG50 Bambino 40mm

Available as a set in a 600-piece numbered edition, the two watches feature a newly designed case in stainless steel — with one coloured in rose gold — to represent our national hues, which are also reflected on the compact presentation box.

Taking centre stage is “60 Years of Independence Since 1965” printed on the dial, which comes in an off-white silver colour tone and finished with a light brushing pattern. Rose gold-toned hands and markers are chosen to add visual interest.

Both are powered by the Japan-made calibre F6724 self-winding automatic movement

The timepieces are powered by the made-in-Japan F6724 self-winding automatic movement with 22 jewels. One of Orient’s most reliable movements, the calibre is produced fully in-house by Epson, which owns the watchmaker, and is used in the brand’s models as far back as 2016.

The rose gold-toned version is fitted with a brown calf leather strap, while the steel one boasts a black strap. Both offer water resistance to 30m. The caseback, which is see-through, also features a serial number engraving.
