Yet this year, some of the world’s top watchmakers, such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Grand Seiko, Montblanc and more, are embracing every shade of the spectrum.

From deep burgundy and crimson lacquer to coral and wine-red mother-of-pearl, the expressions are as diverse as ever. Fittingly, as we Singapore National Day this month, there’s no better time to appreciate the bold colour in all its horological possibilities.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon

The Swiss manufacture gives its Overseas Tourbillon a striking new personality by pairing lightweight grade 5 titanium with a rich deep red dial – the first time this combination has appeared in the collection. The warm, almost burgundy hue brings a fresh, contemporary edge to the, while the satin-brushed finish draws the eye towards the tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

Inside the 42.5mm case beats Vacheron Constantin’s ultra-thin self-winding Calibre 2160 an impressive 80-hour power reserve. A peripheral rotor preserves the movement’s slim profile and allows an uninterrupted view of its refined finishing through the sapphire caseback.

The refined yet sporty watch comes with an integrated titanium bracelet, plus interchangeable deep red and white rubber straps that can be swapped without tools, making this piece a perfect travel companion.

Proud and strong, the lion is not just symbolic of Singapore; but has also represented Grand Seiko since the brand’s inception in 1960 to represent a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Limited to just eight pieces worldwide, the new Spring Drive 8-Day Jewelry Watch “Red Lion” SBGD228 reimagines that enduring emblem as an opulent expression of Japanese craftsmanship, where rose gold, a wine-red mother-of-pearl dial, and vivid Mozambique garnets come together in a striking composition.

Dazzling diamonds and garnets help define the watch’s overall aesthetic. Set across a white gold dial, they create a captivating play of light, while preserving one of Grand Seiko’s defining characteristics: excellent legibility, with carefully positioned garnets serving as hour markers.

Beneath the gem-set exterior lies the formidable Spring Drive Calibre 9R01, whose three-barrel architecture delivers an exceptional eight-day power reserve. Completing the showpiece is a Kyoto Leather strap embossed with a lion’s mane motif.

Produced by integrating traditional Nishijin weaving and gold leaf techniques with premium leather crafted in Himeji, Japan’s historic leather-making centre, the strap is a work of craftsmanship in its own right, reflecting Grand Seiko’s commitment to preserving Japanese artisanal traditions beyond watchmaking.

Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5270P-017

The new Patek Philippe Ref. 5270P-017 gives the maison’s coveted perpetual calendar chronograph a bold new look. Housed in a 41mm platinum case with a sculpted concave bezel and elegant two-tier lugs, it immediately commands attention with a vivid red lacquered dial that fades to black at the periphery, lending one of watchmaking’s most revered grand complications a contemporary, almost sporty character.

Despite the wealth of information on display, the dial remains remarkably balanced. The day and month are presented through twin apertures at 12 o’clock, while the date and moon phases occupy the lower half of the dial, complemented by white gold dauphine hands and a crisp white tachymeter scale.

Powering the watch is the manually wound CH 29-535 PS Q, Patek Philippe’s in-house perpetual calendar chronograph movement, which combines classical architecture with six patented chronograph innovations. A black composite strap with contrasting red stitching completes the watch’s modern aesthetic.

Cartier Tank Americaine

Designed by Louis Cartier in 1917, the Tank has become one of watchmaking’s enduring icons, with its clean geometry and balanced proportions remaining as relevant today as they were more than a century ago. Over the decades, it has evolved into numerous interpretations, with the Tank Americaine standing out for its elegantly curved rectangular case. 

This latest large model introduces a dial in Cartier’s Cadran Rouge, a rich burgundy brought to life through polished, opaline, sunray and vertical satin finishes. Housed in a 44.4mm platinum case, it is paired with sword-shaped hands, an octagonal crown set with a faceted ruby and a matching burgundy alligator leather strap. The watch is driven by Cartier’s Manufacture automatic Calibre 1899 MC.

Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date 0 Oxygen Limited Edition 300

Montblanc’s latest Iced Sea Automatic Date 0 Oxygen Limited Edition 300 captures a side of glaciers rarely seen. Instead of the expected icy blues and whites, its coral-coloured dial draws inspiration from the warm hues that wash over the Mer de Glace at dawn and dusk, with the matching bi-colour bezel extending the vibrant palette. Limited to just 300 pieces, it is undoubtedly one of the collection’s boldest expressions to date. 

The textured dial, crafted using the laborious gratte-boise technique, recreates the crystalline depth of ancient glacial ice through a process requiring more than 30 production steps. Housed in a 38mm stainless steel case, the watch also features Montblanc’s 0 Oxygen technology, which replaces the air inside the case with nitrogen to minimise condensation during sudden changes in temperature or pressure.

Water resistant to 300m, it is powered by the automatic Calibre MB 24.17 and comes with a steel bracelet and matching coral rubber strap.

H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Tourbillon Concept Ceramic

The independent Swiss watchmaker ventures into ceramic territory for the first time with the Streamliner Tourbillon Concept Ceramic, wrapping its signature integrated-bracelet design in anthracite grey ceramic. The stealthy exterior provides a dramatic backdrop for the watch’s vivid red fume grand feu enamel dial, which remains free of logos and indices in keeping with H. Moser & Cie’s minimalist philosophy.

The dial itself is a work of art. Built on a white gold base engraved with a hammered texture, layers of enamel are fired repeatedly to create remarkable depth and a glowing gradient that shifts beautifully with the light.

Powering the watch is the automatic HMC 805 calibre, whose one-minute flying tourbillon and in-house double hairspring enhance precision and stability. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement’s anthracite finish echoes the case, while a red gold rotor adds a subtle flash of warmth.

NORQAIN Wild One Skeleton Chrono

The NORQAIN Wild One Skeleton Chrono proves that performance watches don’t have to rely solely on black. The burgundy edition introduces a restrained wine-coloured Norteq case that softens the watch’s technical appearance without compromising its sporting intent. Limited to 400 pieces, it is paired with a contrasting shock-absorbing core and matching rubber strap, creating a subtle yet distinctive take on the modern sports chronograph.

The 42mm case replaces conventional hands in subdials with wafer-thin transparent discs, which allows for an unobstructed view of the skeletonised movement and the brand’s signature mountain motif beneath.

Built to withstand serious punishment, the lightweight construction comprises more than 25 engineered components, including a shock-absorbing rubber core housed within a Norteq carbon fibre cage, while screw-secured pushers and a sandblasted titanium container reinforce its rugged credentials.

Running the show is NORQAIN’s 8K Manufacture Calibre, an automatic flyback column-wheel chronograph that resets and restarts with a single press. Chronometer-certified for precision, it offers a 62-hour power reserve and is complemented by a pulsometer scale around the dial for measuring heart rate during exercise.

Bvlgari Tubogas Studs

The Serpenti Tubogas Studs Capsule brings together three of Bvlgari’s most recognisable design signatures – the Serpenti, the Tubogas bracelet and the geometric stud – in a striking new interpretation of the Italian house’s iconic jewellery watch.

Among the four 35mm references, the yellow gold model with a carnelian dial is the most captivating. The stone’s rich, fiery red hue lends warmth and depth to the iconic serpent, beautifully complementing the polished yellow gold case, bracelet and diamond-set studs that punctuate the fluid Tubogas coils. More than a decorative stone, carnelian reflects Bvlgari’s long-standing mastery of coloured gemstones, with each dial displaying its own unique natural character.

The sculptural Tubogas bracelet traces its origins to the 1940s, while the reinterpreted stud motif lends a contemporary edge to one of watchmaking’s most enduring icons. A reliable quartz movement keeps the focus firmly on the watch’s sculptural beauty, making this an elegant everyday expression of Bvlgari’s distinctive Roman style.
